Topic: Karicare ar formula for reflux Posted: 02 January 2013 at 8:58pm |
Sophia who is 12 weeks old has reflux and is on losec.. Her reflux is mainly silent but over the past few weeks she has been spitting up more and more so our paed suggested ar formula. We started her on Karicare ar two days ago and since then things have gone from bad to worse.. She doesn't sleep unless we hold her and is so irritable. Does anyone else have a similar experience with at formula unsettling their bub? I don't know if it is just a coincidence.

Hi - our little one had silent reflux when he was a bub, the losec eventually helped but he was on it for about 6 weeks for it to take total effect, how long has Sophia been on losec? My doc said to stick with the formula we were using and not to change, so sorry we have had no experience with AR Formula. I do know that when we changed formula for a tin (as our norm wasn't available) our bubs was not happy, so it could just be a settling in process.
But hang in there, reflux sucks, but I did find offering a dummy at bed time did help settle our one and having the cot slightly raised helped as well.
Good luck

What was she on before the AR?? Breast or formula? Cause if it was breast then she will be having issues with the cows milk part of it. An awful lot of babies with reflux have issues with cow milk/formula. So if you're seeing a Paed then I'd give them a call tomorrow & say this isn't working and get another formula. They may suggest to try goats milk formula.
here is a little bit on AR http://www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/food/arformula/

She has been on losec 10mg for about 3 weeks. Before that she was on 5mg. She has been on plain nurture formula since about 6 weeks. Also now on the ar she is going 6 hours between some day feeds!

Reflux sucks. My youngest was on S26 AR which was good but was awful on the S26 AR gold. I would continue for a couple of weeks and if she doesn't improve you could try another AR formula?

Ok so long story short - the karicare AR made her sooo constipated she woke up screaming in agony and we had to take her to A&E. She neeeded a suppository. Soo she is back on her original formula.

Hiya, glad to hear you remedied the situation (well, as best you can I guess - so sorry to hear you had to go to the A&E!) Was just going to say, the AR formula helped my boy no end, but it also clogged him up. We got around it by giving him 1 ml of prune juice in 5 mls of water once a day, occasionally making it 2 mls if he was bad.
Hope your little one's reflux clear up soon :-)
