Hi everyone!

I have a very little car (Toyota Vitz(Echo)) and really love it. I have assumed I will need to sell it and upsize after trying to fit our friend's baby's carseat in the back (front passenger seat had to go right forward leaving no room for another adult).

I was wondering whether or not there are compact car seats available as this one seemed to be monsterous!

It also didn't have anywhere in the boot to tether the seat.

Has anyone else managed with a tiny car?

Hi Binklemouse,

I googled Toyota Vitz to get an idea of size.
I have a Peugeot 307 which looks to be SLIGHTLY bigger? And Fergus is still rear facing in his carseat at 13months old.
His capsule fitted fine and dandy and now he is in an Safety 1st Air protect
The passenger seat is forward a bit, but another adult can still fit in there fine and dandy.
I got my dealership to add a bolt into the boot- any mechanic/garage should be able to do this for you. I got the bolt for it from baby factory.

Something that could be fun would be to go to babyfactory or a similar place and try out carseats and see what fits- that might give you a better idea for when the time is right?

Hi Binklemouse

I have a family member that has her DS in a Radian in the middle of the back seat of a toyota starlet - I would think that it is very close in size to an echo?

Since you are in Auckland perhaps you could visit KiwiBaby in Mt Roskill or Baby on the Move in Grey Lynn, the ladies there are super helpful, qualified installers and more than happy to try a range of seats in your car for you. (I found their knowledge, expertise and help to be so much better than the chain-store shops.)

Awesome advice thanks girls!
The only reason I would sell my car is because of the size so if I can get away with fitting small child #1 in there I would hold on to it for longer.
Not to mention new car = $$!

We made do with a 3 door Ford Festiva with our first baby- only bought a slightly bigger car AFTER #2 came along 18 months later. DD1 was rear faced until that age and it was fine. Wait till you have 3 children and you're trying to find an economical car to fit them all in to Tongue Wink

Transporting is a very important matter, especially when transport is expensive and very important to you (in a moral sense). Therefore, we came up with special companies that transport a car or cars if there are several of them according to your order. There are very few honest and reliable services and among them you need to be very careful, because they can scratch or even worse - steal your car. In order to prevent this from happening, a service for the transportation of cars moving car in winter tips was created. This service was invented in order to transport cars from anywhere in the world to wherever you want. Millions of people use it and save a lot, because the further you take it, the less you pay, so don't miss your chasn.
