Topic: WHEN SHOULD I TEST??? Posted: 01 February 2007 at 8:20pm |
So I'm sitting here and still no AF.......tomorrow will be 13DPO.
Last month AF arrived on day 16 so that would mean Sunday for me......and I guess if I've had one lot of 16DPO then I should wait at least that long this time around????
I tried to set a time limit for myself and have been saying all week I will not test until Sunday morning.......but its starting to drive me up the wall. Should I just test on Sat and put myself outta my misery or be patient and wait.
I know if I test too soon it may not show up anyway but a friend has told me of test kits which can show up pregnancy 3 days before your missed period. But after reading posts on this website it seems those early tests don't work for everyone.
Your thoughts would help put my crazy overworked brain to rest for hopefully another few days!!!! (Well thats the hope at this stage)

Well i got an early possitive test at 9DPO and i used the cheap brand first response from the supermarket and had a very strong line on all 3 of them, but i also tried another test that i had which was clear blue brand from chemist just to make sure (i used it after the other 3) and i got a very faint possitive (almost couldnt see it) so if your really eager then maybe try first response brand.
But in saying that i dont want to tell you to go and do an early test only to get a neg but actually be pregnant (stupid emotional rollercoaster!!). With my last pregnancy i didnt get a possitive until i was about 6 weeks along so its different for everyone.
Ok i probably didnt even help but i hope you get a BFP this week

Thanks Baysmum, nice to hear other peoples experiences of pregnancy tests. Usually get the clearblue type but might just try the first response type for something different.

some tests come up positive 10 days after conception, I think kobe was about 11 days after that i got a positive (new the day we conceived), with the twins it was the same but with Addison it wasnt until a few days after AF was due that it finally was positive

Hi Salifer, I would say wait until Sunday and I know that isn't as easy as it sounds! But if you test before then and get a BFN you'll just convince yourself that it was too early and so it won't change anything Well, speraking from experience anyway.
Hope you get the BFP you want tho! And Ellen its looking good for you, still no AF

I tested at about 12DPO mainly due to a dream I had and though it was positive, I then spent the next few days worried I had left the tests too long, or that it would be a chemical pregnancy and I would have an early miscarriage.
If you can wait, do as I couldn't imagine having a positive test result only to have AF turn up, and it might save you hundreds of trips to the toilet to check your knickers like I did!
All the best and hope this month is your month!

The other risk you run Salifer is testing a little too early and getting a BFP on a chemical pregnancy. 50% of fertilised eggs don't progress to pregnancy, but for that small window before AF, you can get a BFP if your egg is fertilised. Trust me, I've had one of those (pretty early in the TTC game), and its blimmin horrible seeing that positive, and then the next day, BFN, BFN, BFN.
I'd wait until 16DPO if that's how your last cycle fell - it'll be better, honestly.

That's a good idea (giving yourself time before work on Monday)... We'll all be checking in tomorrow so remember to let us know!

Salifer, I'm so hoping ypu get a BFP this month. Thanks for being so supportive the last couple of days. I'll be stoked if things work out. If not, we'll do all this again together next month.

Oh my goodness........its a BFP!!!
I'm in shock.....can't believe it......I've waited so long for this moment and now its here......woke at 2:30 this morning feeling seriously ill.....DH had to get me some ENO's...to settle the stomach......checked temp....still high.....so did my one and only test and the rest is history.
Thank you all so so much for all your support the last few days. I honestly didn't think I'd make it to Sunday and still be sane!!!
Your thoughts and magic baby dust sent my way worked.....off to doctor tomorrow for blood test to confirm......will post again soon with an update.
To all those out there still in the race, I really hope my news isn't too bitter-sweet for you. I hope its the gleaming light in the dark tunnel to show you that there is an end to the waiting.
NikkiB - looks like we'll be twins, I should be due around Oct 11th...........
