Hi all,

Well I've been reading alot on this site lately and thought I'd finally register.

As someone else put it so effectively, we're not officially TTC but not preventing it either.

I came off the pill just before Christmas, so am really unsure if the changes I've noticed (hormones etc) are cos of that or cos I'm preggers. I'm holding off testing til the end of the month, but I'm very impatient! I just want to know if it's yes or no!

Also I had a very slight bit of bleeding a couple of days ago, does anyone know if this is common in either coming off the pill or being pregnant?

Thanks and I look forward to using this forum - now I've taken the first step in posting!

everyone is different when they come off the pill. When I did I stopped mid cycle only because I forgot to take it, and had a very weird cycle for quite some time afterwards. About 2 weeks after I stopped I had a heavy bleed, then another 2 weeks after that was spotting.

Until you cycle sorts itself out, if you are planning actively trying I would try temping, or essentially you will be keeping clearblue in business as 14 days after each time you have sex you will need to test.

Temping is taking your temperature each day to track your cycle - it changes according to ovulation. There are quite a few threads on charting (which is temping) on the site already if you wanted to see what others have written about it.

Clearblue is a brand of pregnancy tests.

Other things you can think about include OPK's - they can tell you when you are ovulating and are not that expensive (people get them off trademe), and visiting the doctor for a pre preggy health check - looking at things like blood tests on rubella immunity, levels of things like iron in the blood, sugar levels etc.

Also consider taking a folic acid supplement now, before pregnancy, if you aren't already.

Good luck!

Great, thanks for clearing that up!

Cos hubby and I are not officially trying (but would be happy if one came along) I'm not too fussed on tracking ovulation at the moment.

And yes, you're right about keeping clearblue in business! The reason I haven't tested yet is cos they're so expensive, so I figure I'll wait until 30 days after my last period and if it hasn't arrived I'll do one (even though it may just be mucked up cos of the pill).

That should be fine ay?

Thinking that if I need a test, I may go to a family planning clinic, cos they're free?

And thanks for the word up on the folic acid etc - I've been taking vitamins that have folic acid and other things in them.

Yes you can go to family planning clinics for free testing. In Palmy North you can pick up free tests, no questions asked, from the local midwifery clinic, whereas if you go to family planning you do the test there and fill out a great big form with all your details etc. Nicer to do them at home if you can. g/l!

Totally agree, would MUCH prefer to do it at home.

Does anyone know if there's a midwifery clinic in Auckland that gives out free preg tests?

Check the amount of folic acid in your vitamens. A lot of general multivits have 300 or 400 mg, for concieving you want 800mg - you may need to get a seperate tablet.

I haven't heard of anywhere that gives free preggy tests in Auckland sorry - would have come in handy there, as they do add up!

I don't know about auckland but whenever I was worried if I was pregnant I'd just go along to my docs and say I need to take a pregnancy test and the nurse would do it free of charge.

Cool, thanks guys.

I want to test now but I'm making myself wait. I don't know if it's just wishful thinking that I feel this way and I just want to KNOW!!!

We've all been there! The thing that helps me wait on is that an early test will only say 'no' anyway, regardless of the real story.

Hi
I went to my doc for a pre-conception check (which I think is well worth doing - make sure everything is ready to go!) and she gave me a heap of pregnancy test kits for nothing. so maybe yours would do that too?

Wow catie you were lucky to get them from free and to take home with you.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
