Topic: New to this.... Posted: 01 August 2006 at 2:33pm |
Hi, Im new to Oh Baby and to TTC, have tried a few times over the last 12 months, but now very serious about it
I have some questions....
1. Does your mucous change once the egg has been fertilised? I mean does it go back to being like Egg white even if you have O'd and the egg has been fertilised?
2. Do I count my O date forward 14 days after LMP, or do I count back from my last LMP to give a date I should have O'd on?
Any advise for a newbie would be appreciated - I'm a bit lost with it all.
TIA

Hi and Welcome!
I'm not sure about number 1 but with regards to working out your day of ovulation, it really depends on your cycle, from the day that you ovualate to the first day of your period is 14 days, so if your cycle is regular you should be able to count back and work out when you ovulated.
A lot of girls use methods of taking thier temperature with a basel thermometer, or using ovulation predictor kits and various other methods to work out a more exact date.
Good luck!!

Sorry saw this yesterday and was gonna answer for you but baby started crying.
1. Does your mucous change once the egg has been fertilised? I mean does it go back to being like Egg white even if you have O'd and the egg has been fertilised?
Yes ur mucus does change once you have ovulated but in saying that anything can happen, typically when you ovulate u normally see EWCM (Eggwhite cervical mucus) however some women get creamy or watery. The 2 most fertile are EWCM and watery. I found when i got pregnant i had alot of creamy CM after ovulation but dont take that in coz everyone is different. Cant answer to whether it changes once the egg is fertilised as everyone is different.
2. Do I count my O date forward 14 days after LMP, or do I count back from my last LMP to give a date I should have O'd on?
To get reliable O dates i would recommend charting your temps, the "average" cycle day for ovulation is CD14 but like many others this can vary drastically, mine went from as late as CD23 to as early as CD13. Typically ur luteal phase should be 14 days long so when u get ur period count 14 days backwards from there to get the day u ovulated, but do note this is a rough estimate as your luteal phase could be shorter! I have experienced a phase of only 9 days before.
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask me or pm me i dont mind, ill try and reply when ella is sleeping
I hope i have been of some help

Thanks heaps for the replies, I appreciate it. I might give this temperature thing a go..... It sounds like you have to be very organised - not sure if i'll be too good at that

Thanks newmum......... I sure hope it doesn't take too long. I don't like that feeling after each month of AF arriving yet again!
Do you have any other tips?

me? nope, we are ttc at the moment but the last 2 pregnancies (I lost the first baby) we just got pregnant without temping or counting or anything like that... so that will be the approach we take this time, unless it starts taking tooooo long

It's good to hear that people do still get preggers without all the fancy methods - I just think that if I go down the track of charting etc, I'll end up a blubbering jittery mess waiting and pulling my hair out!!!
Good Luck to you!

Yes, tell me about it. When we started trying the first lime late last year, I was testing when there was no real possibility of a BFP - Just for the hell of it I think - maybe it was wishful thinking, or to make me feel better about the whole POAS thing!! Silly really - guess thats what you call babies on the brain!
