Hey there,
Do any of your pre-schoolers do athletics? What age do they generally start? And what sort of things do they do (just running races at first?) I can imagine it would be chaos with pre-schoolers!!
And do they enjoy it?
We are thinking of enrolling Jake if hes old enough - he'll be almost 3.5 at the start of the season. He loves running around just for the sake of running, so thought it would be a good way to burn off some energy. But I'm wondering if maybe it would be better to leave it til next year when hes a bit older, as hes in daycare 3 days and already doing soccer on sat mornings. Although we may miss one term of soccer anyway as we're away a bit next term so I'm considering athletics instead (free vs $140ish a term!).
My daughter did athletics for a while when she was a pre schooler. I think she was around Jake's age when she started. There were really little children participating too. I think my friend's little girl was around 18 months?
Anyways, they are split into age groups dependant on when their birthdays are. They then run short races against each other. They ran two races a night. The rest of the time they did a round robin thing with other activities such as a obsticle course, hula hoops, ball skills, something with one of those mini tramp thingys, t-ball, relays etc. It was utter chaos but heaps of fun.
I was looking at this this weekend interestingly - and seeing as you are also out west - i found 2 groups that offer for preschoolers. One in Massey - and one Te Atatu South, Tirimoana school i think, which was forom 2 years of age. Their seasons both start in October, so we're rthinking we might try the tirimoana one. I think one wwas $20 for the season...
