Ok so you think i would know how to find a midwife or would alrady have one but with both my kids i just went thru the high risk clinic at greenlane so never had to search for a midwife.

so now i find myself in the position of wanting a midwife for my last baby (cause it is def the last) but not knowing how or where to look.

I live in south auckland but dont want to birth at middlemore cause i have heard too many bad stories about it...so can anyone help me please.

Thanks in advance....

First of all, haven't said congrats yet, so.. Congratulations!

Do you have a midwifery resource centre in AKL? Should be in the white pages if you do. Did you doctor give you a list?

I left it so late to get a m/w (ie. 10 weeks) that I rang about 20 on the list my doc gave me before they referred me to someone that could actually take me. So it's good you're thinking about it now! Hopefully you'll get some referrals from ladies on here.

Hey Deb, are you thinking of giving birth at somewhere like Botany or Papakura? Or thinking more of another hospital? If one of the first then the midwife I used would be ok. She is based in Wattle Downs though so not too sure if you would find that too far to travel (bout 20 mins from Ptoe) Anyway her name is Irene Vivian, I found her lovely prenatally. She didn't end up making it when I actually delivered and we didn't have much postnatal either seeing as Ashleigh was in hospital but my sister said she was great for her. PM me if you would like her details

You could ring 0800 mum2be (?) and they send you a list of midwives in your city/area... might be somewhere to start? (you probably already knew this so I will go now )

I contacted Mama Maternity services and they were able to give me a huge list of midwives in my area and a bit of information about each one (ie where they prefer to deliver babies etc). I found that very helpful.
You could start with one midwife and if they can't take you, ask them for their recommendations and contact numbers for other midwives.
