Topic: Placenta Previa Posted: 20 August 2007 at 10:40am |
Hi Guys
Has anyone been diognosed with this or had it during a pregnancy, we just had or scan this morning and i have it, i googled it and found an amreican site that said it could change during the pregnancy however the rediologist initially said we would be having a scan at 32 weeks then at the end of the scan said that i would not need that scan as she has the pictures she needed.
My mid wife is overseas at the moment and we don't have an appointment for a couple of weeks. I would really appreciate any info.
Thanks

Yep I had this. We had a scan at 32 weeks & the placenta had moved right up. I think in most cases the placenta does move, so try not to worry about it.
As your uterus grows, normally the placenta moves up with it.

I had the same thing and a scan alter on confirmed it had moved back up.
If it doesn't move all it means from memory is an elective C-Section 1-2 weeks before your due date.
But I wouldn't panic too much as Italiah has said most move back up.

Just what the others siad. They will scan you again around the 30 weeks mark to see if it has moved up. Sometimes it can sit so low that it slightly blocks the cervix which is when you need to be extra careful as its slightly more serious.
Usually it will be a C-section unless it moves furthur up.
I wouldn't stress as it can't be too serious or the radiologist would have said or your back up MW would have rang you.

Thanks for all the info guys, we only had the scan this moring so the midwives won't get the report until tomorrow or wednesday, but it sounds like most of the time it ends up being nothing. The midwife said they reassess later inthe pregnancy but she also said that we probably won't need the 32 week scan (after i got up and jiggled a bit to move the baby) so i am cofused, I will jus have to wait until the midwife is back but i'm not stressed anymore.

My SIL had it, they monitored the placenta via scans to ensure it moved before giving birth. It moved right out of the way and she had a VB with no problems at all. She did experience a couple of times where she spot bleed as it was so close to her cervix, but apparently can be quite normal.
Certainly nothing to worry about from what I have heard about it!
