I've decided that I might start weaning Matthew onto either cows milk or toddler milk now that he's over 1, but how much do I give him??? He's currently breastfed twice a day - first thing in the morning & last thing at night. I want to start replacing that morning feed, but I haven't expressed in so long I've got absolutely no idea about how much he normally drinks. Does anyone know what's sort of a 'standard' amount for a 1 year old?
Just give him half a cup to start with and if he doesn't finish it, or gobbles it up, adjust from there. I think Plunket like to see about a cup of milk/2 slices of cheese/1 pottle yoghurt for 1yo's and double that by 2yrs (although I personally think that's a bit excessive for a 2yo). So the morning and night feed added together would be about a cup, at a guess.
When Josiah had just turned 1, he was having formula and I started replacing that with cows milk. He was having 3 bottles a day at the time, of 250ml a time.
I would suggest starting with 200ml or 250ml and seeing how much he drinks for a few days then take an average of that as the "norm" for Matthew.
