I turned on the oven to preheat, so I could cook pie & chips for dinner... I went to settle Xavier, then came back to the kitchen to see lots of smoke pouring out of the vent hole in the stovetop.

Turns out, Josiah had put my silicon bakeware into the oven... the muffin tray on a shelf and the square cake tin directly onto the element. Lots of flames and flour later, the muffin tray is only slightly scorched but the cake tin is history.

I've rung the property manager, he's got a squash tornament tonight but he'll be over as soon as he can. Good thing he lives just across the road!

Just think how lucky it was that your bakeware was the only thing burnt, not Josiah!! Eek!

Yeah, I know!

The property manager has been over now... everything is working okay, and the melted silicon is peeling easily off the element so we're all not worried.

Moral of the story... if you've got a child that is facinated with all things culinary, always check your oven!

I've just realised something. In my original post I forgot to mention that Josiah put the stuff into the oven earlier on during the afternoon, at least an hour before I turned it on.

I'm just so grateful that he followed me down the hall and didn't stick around the kitchen, because he probably would have opened the oven door to check out the fire.
