Hannah has an ear infection at the moment, she's had it for 2 weeks now and it did seem to get better for a while but about 2 days ago she started crying (for the first time in this whole ear infection time) and saying her ear was sore etc, so I started up the ibuprofen again for a couple of days and finished off the course of ABs which I had forgotten about when she seemed better

Two nights ago, the same night that she was crying about the pain, she woke up at 10pm and came to me and was very distressed about her ear hurting and cried so much and worked herself up and ended up dry-retching plus a little. She was fine once she settled down and I gave her some pamol (cause she was insistent that it was better than ibuprofen lol!), and she went back to sleep with no more dramas that night.

This morning she woke up and started puking a bit. It was bile-ish, not foody (sorry TMI), so I don't think she has a tummy bug. Also none of the rest of us are unwell except for sniffles. I know she has a sensitive tummy and after a D&V bug will often start up again a day or two later if she hasn't had a full 24 hours of the BRAT diet. So there's some sensitivity there, but I'm a bit concerned nonetheless.

For breakfast she has had lemon honey drink and dry toast and is holding that down fine and saying she feels better, but she is still pale and will be on a strict diet today.

Either she is puking out of distressedness (although she wasn't crying or worked up today), she has a bug, or perhaps something in her ear is upsetting things? She still has fluid in there (she still says she can 'hear herself talking in her ears'). Ideas anyone? The only other side effects she has had from ear infections before is (not complete) deafness.

poor hannah!

last wednesday charli woke up fine, gave her a bottle, she drank 50mls and proceeding to projectile all over the carpet
so later i gave her some boiled water, same again, then some pedelyte (sp?) same again. no fever, no runny poo but was very pale and just wanted to be cuddled and slept alot. she wasn't even crying or anything.   so i assumed she had a tummy bug. took her to the drs later that day and turns out she has one major ear infection and the drum in the other ear is bulging.

jack has had a few before...red ears with a fever, but charli's only symptom was vomiting. she'd reached for her ears a couple of times but i thought she was just playing with them.

that's my very long winded way of saying 'yes the vomiting is probably caused by the ears and not a bug'
maybe this one is more severe than any of the other ones..

anyhoo, i hope she feels better really soon! i know charli is struggling with hers, she's sleeping alot and still miserable today

What did the doc do for Charli? Just ABs? Hannah is due for a follow up check in another week, but is this more urgent or shall I just leave it?

and the fact that she didn't finish the course of abs in one go probably mean it didn't kill the bug. I would take her back to the drs and make sure you finish the abs.

Yeah I'd say worth seeing the Doc sooner rather than later.  I remember a lot of ear infections as a child and they really did hurt - and they just get more and more painful until they're treated.

Hi ladies, thanks for your responses. I went out this afternoon and didn't get to read them until I got home. So I rung the after hours in Palmy and talked with the nurse. She said to give her the last dose of ABs tonight and review her in the morning. One of her eyes is bloodshot but she is very, very tired so I'm hoping a round of good sleep will do the trick. Otherwise if she is still not good in the morning, another round of ABs will be required then.

Still bloodshot - must be pink eye. It's only in one eye but she looks miserable. Coughing, sniffing.... I've given her a dose of Dimetapp and we'll be going to the docs soon (have been waiting for K to wake up - she has a cough also, and was up at 5am and took until 7am to get back to sleep solely cause of coughing!!)
