Topic: Toiletting (preschooler) Posted: 21 September 2006 at 12:20pm |
My 2 year old has recently got a stool for the toilet (short legs!) and she is so excited about being about to do the whole toilet routine by herself. But she is not wiping herself completely dry (she thinks she is) and doesn't want me taking over too much, now that she can finally "do it by herself". Any suggestions?

I think most kids have this problem but Im not sure how to solve it but I know even my neice who is 4yrs old just gives a bit of a wipe and away she goes. Gross I know but Im not sure what you do about it sorry. I know if its poos her mum does go in and help. You could always give her a minute or so and then have a clean up with baby wipes so she still thinks she is doing the toilet routine herself.

Yes with #2's I do it, cause she can't reach (yay!) - in fact she's far from being able to reach. All I could really think of for the front was regular bathing. She's a bit red but there have been no complaints of soreness, I guess that's a good thing

Maya doesn't wipe at all half the time - unless I catch her and remind her. And it hasn't seemed to have caused her any problems, I just make sure she has a good wash in the bath. She doesn't seem to get red, but I swear by Curash powder every night after her bath as she is still in Dry NItes at night and that helps to keep her from sore at night.
With poos I wipe for her tho as she can't get the hang of it. At preschool tho she is too shy to ask the teachers for help and sometimes comes home with grubby knickers where she has tried and hasn't quite got it right. I've talked to the teachers, but they can't stalk her every time she goes to the toilet, and she just refuses to ask.

WE have the same prob with Paris sometimes.. she knows that either at home or at daycare to ask for some help with wiping when she does #2.. sometimes she is red and a bit ick and that's when i know she hasn't wiped properly .. but we have the thing that every morning.. and before bed at night (and when she's home she stil wears naps for clseeps, so before and after then..) we do the same thing as we would at a nap change, ie warm wet flannel wash.. and the curash powder like Emma, and that seems to help.
