Topic: What do you do Posted: 18 December 2008 at 4:19pm |
With your baby all day?
I have a four month old and I love to play with him but I feel like we just do the same thing every day. I need some new ideas. So what do you do with your little one?

JJ loves looking at the breeze blowing leaves, so he really seems to enjoy it if I take a blanket outside under a tree and let him kick around (with no nappy, of course). He used to be happy enough to lie there for a while and I could read a book, now he's starting to move a bit more I need to pay closer attention otherwise he'd eat the grass
Reading a book is always good.
Recently we've been spending a lot of time playing around with sippy cups, unfortunately I think he's starting to realise I have an ulterior motive!
Babbling at each other in the mirror is always fun too, it's amazing how long he wants to keep doing that.
I want to take him swimming soon, he loves the bath and shower

Its a bit different when there is a toddler as well, Joel pretty much just goes along with whatever we are doing for Leah as he is happy anywhere.
He spends time either inside or out under a playgym, mostly with no pants on, sitting in a rocking chair for variety, he loves to be pulled up from lying down to standing so he can jump and look around.
He is left to fend for himself a bit when I need to be doing things with Leah so she doesn't melt down as well!!
First babies are really lucky the amount of time you get to spend on them, so enjoy the time and once he is more active you will think of heaps to do.
Not much help sorry, but we are all in the same boat!

I have 2 coffee groups that I have been going to since Amy was born - well one before as it is my anti-natal group. We do one week at someones house and the other out. Our babies are now full on 2 1/2 year olds so cafes are not so easy anymore but it was great when they were little and they were lined up on a rug checking each other out!!
The other thing we do is Mainly Music. We started when Amy was about 6 weeks old - it was a new group starting so I was keen to grab a spot whilst it was available!! Amy loved it - right from the begining and I gave me a chance to chat to some other mums at morning tea .
Reading is great and songs and rhymes. Playgym (and excersaucer when they get bigger). The park & playbround in a couple of months time will be great and as Weegee said, swimming.

lol weegee me and caden do the mirror thing! he thinks its very funny to see himself in the mirror and he trys to chase his hand its so cute lol
Caden plays in his exersaucer a bit which gives me a chance to clean up have lunch etc, when he isnt in that he is on the floor kicking round...I will sometimes read to him, or he sits on my lap and we talk and have a cuddle.
Bath time is fun, he loves playing with his toys and feeling the water and he likes it outside aswell.
I dont know,,,we just find things to do, lol
lol "groundhog day" is about right lol

I have the same problem with the twins - I need to keep to a strictish routine to keep everything ticking along nicely but find that it tends to get like "groundhog" day. I tried books but my 2 yr old steals them all the time. I guess I am counting on them entertaining themselves quite a bit. I find it hard to get out to do a lot of social things with them as it is such a logistical exercise - it requires a lot of careful planning around feedtimes, sleeps and preschool runs.

Thanks for the replies. Much of what you have said we are already doing. I don't mind doing the same thing every day its just that I want to let DS have lots of different experiences so was looking for new things I hadn't thought of.
Cat I can totally see how getting out would be difficult for you. I guess over time it will get a bit easier as they sleep less.

Groundhog day is right! I find it easier to entertain Chloe now that she's finally mobile. But I used to just play with her, read books, sing songs/rhymes, take her outside to feel the grass and the hedge and watch me do the washing while she plays with pegs (lol), walk in the stroller somewhere, feel different objects (fluffy things, wooden spoons, plastic cups, tissue boxes were among her favourite things to play with)... it does get repetitive though!

yep... groundhog day here too for sure! I try and alternate the songs but that's about all the variety he gets
having said that me and DH took Cian to the park the other day and actually had him out of the stroller on the ground and he was totally spinning out with all the new things to look at. He kept pulling the edge of the blanket up so he could grab the grass lol...

our days seem to go fast, the twins get to play in the morning on the ground with their toys, and playgym things, they love water, and the bath!! they will lie in their baby bath splashing for hours!!
unfortunately luke LOVES mickey mouse clubhouse, i think it's the voices and colours.
and if they drive us nuts, they go in the pram under a tree :D

My wee goat loves being sung to ... when we're feeding, when I'm changing or dressing her, when she's lying on the floor ... often I'll move her arms and legs in time to the song.
At the moment we're in a Christmas carol phase.

Sophia thrives on routine so groundhogday suits us! At the mo she loves this little piggy and mat time...We rotate the toys that are on it. She dose not like being outside so we do that rarely. Loves the bath and naked mat time. Stories, silly songs and basically chatting all day long.
