Hi Guys,

I'm a first time Mum and just about to start thinking about going back to work. I'll probably start off 2 days a week from 9-3 when Jaxon is around 9 months old, and gradually increase that to 4 days a week from 9-3 once he turns 1.

I live in Unsworth Heights on the North Shore and am looking for a daycare nearby. Does anyone have any experience with any in the area that they would like to share? Good or bad? I don't really know where to start so any comments would be a huge help! And approx prices too?

An alternative is Barados or Porse? Does anyone know exactly how that works - how do you find a home and what are their prices like?

Sorry for the long post but any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

There is a daycare on sunset just past the roundabout heading towards they bays that was recommended to me last year.

There prices were good ($240 per week from memory FT) and it was a small independant centre. Honestly soooo many have opened since I got pg! Everywhere you look there is new one opening! That said there are waiting lists so I wouldnt be waiting to long to get your name down. If you are flexible with your 2 days you should be ok though.

I looked into PORSE, to be an educator (which reminds new year is here, time to send off my paperwork) and the fees vary in experience from $5 per hour to $10 per hour.

Some include food and nappies, others dont. You can look on their website and see if there are any vacancies in your area (days and times).

Barnados was a flat fee and it is on their website, from memory $5.65 per hour??? Not completely sure about that one. There is also jemmas, and another one I cant remember LOL.

You contact them and they will get you in touch with a educator. You can trial a couple of days to see if its the right match for yor both.

Personally for me I would use home care until about 18 months. I just think its nicer for little ones to get more one on one care....

The centre I was looking at a half day was between 8.30am - 3.3-pm.. if you dropped off or collected outside of these hours you were charged a full day and you may find the same thing with home educators that 6 hours plus is charged as a full day.

HTH

I've heard really good things about the Summerfield Early Learning Centre.
Cnr Bush Rd & Rosedale Road, Albany

Two of my friends have young children there and they rave about the place. I think it has quite a waiting list though. It pays to go and visit a few places.

Lollipops educare on Rosedale Road in Albany was wonderful, the best daycare we've ever had my daughter in.
