It Dh's birthday today and I have managed to arrange a babysitter for the evening so would like to take DH out for dinner.
Suggestions for a nice place to eat out in the auckland region would be welcomed. We live in the mt albert region but am happy to travel a little ways.

thanks for suggestions in advance.

Really depends on what you like.

There's DePost in Mt Eden or DeFontein in Mission Bay that do really nice meals, including pots of mussels (not my thing) that people rave about. It is a "nice" pub type setting which I find enjoyable.

Or EAST in Newmarket does really nice Asian inspired stirfry things.

Or LoneStar in Newmarket which does really huge meals that men love and is quite a fun (but noisy) setting.

What type of place / food do you enjoy?

Have you tried Sal Rosa down at the bottom of Alberton, nice homely italian. Other options close by (without having a nightmare parking in town) would be:

Bouchon - Kingsland - French & very very nice

Occam - WIlliamson Ave - Grey Lynn - quite casual, but yummy!

Didas - Jervios Rd, Herne Bay - tapas rather than a meal, but lovely atmosphere and really yummy food.

Taiko - Kingsland (down near the train station) - awesome atmosphere, fantastic japanese food

O'Sarracino - at the very top of Mt Eden road, is quite nice - havent been for ages though.

Delicious - Richmond Rd, Grey Lynn - cant book a table so need to go early-ish, or wait across road at Gypsy Tea Rooms, but food is DIVINE!!

Malt - Richmond Rd, Grey Lynn - a bit pub-like, but tasty food!

Hope this helps.....good luck!

De Post on Mt Eden road is "okay", but gets very loud and very busy on Friday / Sat nights, so might not be the best for what you are looking for.

I love Francoli in the Ellerslie Village - quite quaint and great food/service.

I 2nd Lone Star. I've been a few times and my goodness the food is fantastic and BIG. They let you take a doggy bag home too if you cant eat it all. Oh and get the garlic loaf, it's to die for! You can ask for a table in a quiet part of the place too :D

had a lovely night out. Thanks for all the suggestions. We ended up at Sal rose which was lovely. Bouchon was just a little too busy.
