We found out a couple of weeks ago that our DS (4 and 1/2 months old) has excema. He's not yet on solids so I know it's not related to a food allergy. Just wondering if anyone has found that certain washing powders or soap help?? My doctor prescribed some hydrocortisone (if that's how you spell it) cream for when it gets bad and said to use sparingly, but does anyone have any other ideas that have worked for you? It has come up really bad under his chin this week and goes around his neck.
Don't want to freak you out but most early onset infant ezcema is food related. My DS had ezcema from about 6 weeks and turns out it was multiple allergies (dairy, egg, peanut and wheat). Enough was coming through my breastmilk to cause problems and once i started restricting my diet of those foods there was some improvement. He is now 7 months old and on neocate. He still has some ezcema and i wonder if there are other allergies yet to be diagnosed. We are still using the steroid cream a bit. Also use plenty of fatty cream to keep the skin really moisturised as this reduces the tendancy to itch. Not sure if you are breastfeeding or not, if bubs is on formula then it may still be a dairy allergy. Get your Dr to order skin prick tests so you know either way. We went to see Rodney ford the specialist in chch. Good luck!
