The last couple of days I've noticed bubs has got a weepy/gooey eye. It isn't terrible, just more watery than normal and sometimes a bit gunky. It doesn't look swollen and doesn't seem to bother her at all. Is it a blocked tear duct? Any recommendations on treatment?

If you're breastfeeding, a little squirt in the eye at each feeding is magic. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get worse. If the breastmilk works, it works pretty quickly.

Really? Excellent, I'll make sure I give her a sneaky squirt at the next feed. Thanks :)

If you are breastfeeding you can put a week bit of breast milk on it... weird I know but it works... my DD had a wee bit of conjunctivitis after she was born and the midwife suggested this and it worked.....

If it is a wee eye infection and doesn't settle with the breast milk go see your doctor.

eta didn't see your reply already... I typed the first bit stopped as phone rang then posted.... now really better go do some housework....

Any remedies when you are not breastfeeding? DS has had a gunky eye for a couple of weeks now. Not red or swollen. I'm just wiping it with warm water and flannel at each feed but is there anything else that will clear it up or should I go to the gp?

MW gave me saline solution in little tubes, you could get those at the pharmasist but not all that differnt to the warm water you have been using.

I don't know of any other home remedies the doctor should just prescribe a cream so its not as though he has to have ABs (which I try to avoid until really necessary.

Midwife told me that ours was just a blocked tear duct. Because they are so tiny, it's very common that it happens. It just cleared up on its own.
