lewis was away for a week, and then we moved, and taine went into a big boy bed. lots of stuff - Taine is finally going to sleep in his bed, without crawling in with jake - and then pushing him out. BUT he keeps waking up and getting into bed with us- and by the way, "getting into bed" means i go and get him. but he grins so much as he snuggles down. so cute! anyway, lewis told me today that if Taine continues to sleep in our bed, he'll sleep on the couch cause he can't sleep - kinda fair enough as Taine kicks...a lot. so it's operation "sleep in your own bed buddy" - but he's had so many changes recently I feel so meaaaaaannnnn.   and he is really warm. can you tell i don't wanna do this? makes it hard as he sleeps with jake and i don't ewant him to cry and wake up jake as well.

shall try tonight though....well will try....no there is not try, there is do or do not......

will update tomorrow.

good luck Lizzle.

But personally, I'd be the same as you! If the child has gone through a lot of chages recently they need Mum (and Dad) for reassurance.
And I've been reading Toddler Taming recently and he says the same thing. But if he's upsetting Jake with his "nocturnal wanderings" (I love the way Christoper Greene writes!) then perhaps split them up if possible for a couple of nights until you've got Taine to stay in his own bed then put them back together when everything has calmed down.

All the best with tonight

It can be doe Lizzle! We had to retrain Ella from coming in with us when she woke in the night.
It was hard to keep it up at first, as in the wee small hours it was very tempting just to tuck her in with us and go back to sleep, rather than spend time resettling her.
She got the hang of it pretty quick though, 3 crap nights and then she was sleeping all night in her own bed.
Hope it goes well for you!

Perservere Liz. And Taine will be fine... he knows ya love him.
Just make sure if you do hear him, that you get out of bed and go to him before he climbs into you. Trust me, so much easier to train them that way... otherwise they get mixed messages and just keep on climbing in!

I agree with Nikki, we had this same problem with Abby I now get up the second I hear her stirring and rub her back, let her know I am still here and it seems to work. She now only wakes up every now and then instead of two to three times a night in which she would always end up in our bed.

Now she only ends up in our bed maybe once every three weeks or so.

Good luck as hard as it is stick to it and you will do it.

Stay strong Liz, he's probably had enough nights of settling co-sleeping and will be fine in his own bed! You'll definitely want to beat this habit before long. My girls have a rule that the door stays partly open but if they get out (when it's still dark), then when they are put back to bed it's with the door shut. I can hear them if they cry in the night, like if something is wrong, so that's no prob. But they don't room share (that totally didn't work out for us!) so that might seem to the 'good' one that he is being punished for the 'bad' boy's behaviour!

Ella gets into bed at some stage in the night.. now she's night time TT'd she often wakes up to go to the toilet, and she needs me to help. I am going to work on her sleeping in her bed once we get back from the states.. no point now as she'll probably be sharing a bed with us over there.

We have to get Joey out of this habit before number 2 comes along too although I am really glad it isn't only our kidlet that does it, hehehehe

Our big issue is Joey getting up at 5AM EVERY MORNING for the past week and not going back to sleep aaaargh

Good luck Liz, stay strong.

Our Jake doen't get into bed, but we do have a problem with the dog. And the sneaky wee tart sneaks in when we are asleep, down the end near our feet, and creeps up... and before you are all imagining some great huge ridgeback/greatdane cross, shes just a wee Jack Russell...

We have this with Josiah, Liz. He comes in and hops into bed with Daddy (ie, on Nat's side of the bed!) at about 3am every night. Nat is exhausted because of Josiah waking him, and it takes about 30 minutes every time to get him to go back to sleep in his own bed. Xavier is still not sleeping through the night so we're a couple of tired parents by morning. A week or so after we move we are going to start teaching both boys to sleep through and stay put.

me too aimee! am gutted! next time you are over though - yell out.

Taine has had three nights in his bed alone! yah! Actually can't take the credit as lew sat with him, patted his back and - the key ingrediant it seems - left a sippy bottle of water there for him. it seems he was gettting thirsty!

one bad thing - Jake has decided that he doesn';t like to sleep in wet nappies - so takes them off - around 3am - then gets back, goes to sleep, wets bed and hopes in with us freezing cold! lucki.y he doesn't kick. But honestly, is there anything cuter than a child cuddled up asleep in your arms (before your arms go to sleep or the said child starts kicking or flailing about)
