hey gurls i was just woundering how you can tell when your waters have broken coz i keep thinking ive got discharge but its clear and smells like semen lol but even if it is discharge should it smell like that???

i have had quite a discharge throughout and feel that mine smells a little like semen too ( not that any semen has got near me in a long time  )
I wondered if I was leaking amniotic fluid all through but noone has seemed concerned.

Hey Chonni, you can get your MW to do a swab test to find out weather it is amniotic fluid
I had really, really heavy watery discharge in the last few weeks of pregnancy & several times thought my waters had broken lol(the crazy thing was with my first pregnancy my waters did break, so i kinda knew what it felt like too ) but yeah it smelt like that

I had a major smell fetish during both my pregnancies
BTW  With my heavy discharge/leaks i got DP to sniff & confirm it wasn't wee as a second opinion  Seriously!!

ok its quite alot now almost like i wet my undies so i called my midwife and she said to put on a pad and sit down 4 half an hour then stand back up then call her again eakk

If it's been the same for a couple of days it'll just be ordinary extra discharge which happens in the last couple of months or sometimes even more I notice a huge increase in that stuff (ick) in the last 3 days before due date/labour date (basically the same date for me). If it's your waters leaking, lie down for 1/2 hour or so with a pad on then when you get up it would have collected and will pool into your pad. Otherwise it's just ordinary discharge. If it's a full-on waters leak (which it isn't lol) you will wet and keep on wetting with no control

Chonni - I had the same thing when I was pregnant, the 1st time (I was about as far along as you are now), it wasn't much and only happened for a day, when I was tested there wasn't any Amnio fluid present, and MW said it may have been bubs moving down and releasing some fluid to allow it to do so. The 2nd time was when I was 40 weeks, and it felt like I was constantly peeing myself , I was going through at least a pad an hour sometimes and smelt very much like Semen!
I second what Busymum said - it will pool and when you get up you'll feel it! And ring MW as they have a really simple test/swab to identify if its Amniotic fluid.

Most people do have quite a bit of discharge, get it checked out however the mucus plug in your cervix and baby's amniotic sac will do a really good job at keeping amniotic fluid in the right place.
I have to wear liners now all the time or I'd go through several pairs of undies a day! Makes sense when you think about it, a good immune response to keep fluids flowing out so that bacteria etc can't go upwards towards baby. I did mention it to my midwife last week and she said quite a bit is normal provided it's not thick white itchy stuff (thrush).

I think if it's amniotic fluid it should smell sweet, that's how I remember it. If you have thrush this could make you have more discharge. I have to wear a panty liner 24/7 due to extra discharge when pg, otherwise my pants would get soaked.
