Topic: Hot and prickly Posted: 18 July 2007 at 8:20am |
There was frost on our lawn this morning and I haven't had any heaters running since yesterday evening, but I'm SO HOT! I'm wandering around the house in my lightest cotton PJ pants and a singlet that comes halfway down my tummy (such a good look!) and I'm barefoot but I just can't get cool enough. And my hands and feet feel all prickly and they look a bit swollen.
Is this normal for 37+ weeks or should I be a bit concerned?

I would be giving your MW a call just to get checked out and rule out high BP. Have you got a headache? As a headache, swelling and high BP can be bad.

I have a fairly minor on-and-off headache above my left eye. It's off at the moment though.
Hmmm, maybe I should ring

Well worth getting checked, but I wonder if you might just be going to go into labour in the next week

Hey Mikaela
Hope everything's ok. Just saw your ticker & you've only got a couple more weeks to go! So exciting for you. You must check in to the August thread & let us know when it happens .

Firstly I agree with the others and check but I had this at 38 weeks and it turned out to be a massive hormone attack!!, this turned into a hideous rash that started on my face ( very nice) and my arms, legs and hands ( anywhere that got hot!!)
The mw said soak in vinegar but the lovely cream the doctor gave me sorted it out just in time for bubba to arrive!!!

Thanks everyone, rang my OB this morning and went in for a BP and urine check (I think he said he was looking for protein in my urine? niiiice ) but all is ok. BP was a wee bit on the high side, but not enough to be worried about yet. I have another check up tomorrow.
I'm feeling a bit more comfortable now anyway. My hands and feet are still a bit puffy but not as much and my temperature has sorted itself out a bit.
Thanks for all the replies

No protein is a good thing. If you had that sorry to say you wouldn't be at home you'd be tucked up in a hospital bed right now.
Did they tell you to "rest"? If so make sure you do so things so settle down.

Oh cool - protein means that he was ruling out pre-eclampsia. I have twice got puffy hands within a week of labour so all the best for that !!

Oh I'd be SO happy if this was a sign of oncoming labour! Bring it on!! Haven't had any other signs yet though, no 'show' or anything...
mummy_becks, he did tell me to 'take it easy' so I've spent a lot of time on the couch today. Hopefully at my appointment tomorrow I'll be able to get a better idea of what, if anything, is going on.
