Topic: Paracetemol Posted: 21 April 2007 at 3:13pm |
Has anyone else found their kid won't sleep after giving paracetemol? Jack had his 15 month immunisations on thurs and the dr said give him some as soon as we get home and before he goes to bed. I gave him some when we got home and he wouldn't go down for his afternoon sleep and then kept waking at night not in pain just very awake and wanting to play. The next night he was back to normal and slept all night.
I have noticed the few times I have given it he just won't sleep. I figured it must be the sugar or something in it as he gets quite active after having sugar (same as me when I was young). Is there anything else I can give that wouldn't keep him awake?

My mother who is a nurse one told me that certain kids metabolisms work a lot faster and therefore certain medications will have a total different effect on them. Where certain kids will get sleepy others will go hyper.

I have noticed that as well Rach, but wasnt sure if it was cos of the pamol. She just seemed very hyperactive after, so I guess it could have been.

Next time I won't be giving him anything unless he is grizzly. Is there anything that isn't so sugary that does the same job for when he does need it?

Rach, Ayja does the same thing, we gave her pamol when she was in a serious pain with her chicken pox, and that was just before bed. each time, 45 mins later she would wake screaming uncontrollably, unable to be consoled, rolling around going "no no no no" she just can't have it. she always has gone hyper with it, but whoa, it got to the point she slept longer when she was (sounds mean) in pain from rolling onthe huge pox, than if i gave her pamol.

Paracetamol has low levels of caffiene in it so your kid might be a little sensitive to it. Shirena is quite correct, depending on each persons metabolism is how effective that small amount is. I think the most ironic thing of all is that some elderly people take a couple of panadol to help tham sleep at night!

Reason why I cant use Stopayne on McKayla. (paracetemol based medication from SA. made her totally hyper for our flight.)
