If you are taking your temperature you'll notice a change with that, if you aren't then there should be an increase in mucus and a consistency change (TMI).
Ovulation involves the release of a egg, so i would say no you can't get pg without ovulating....anyone, correct me if i am wrong

Hi Megan!
Charting is the best way to know, and if you combine this with use of an ovulation predictor (sp?) kit (OPK) which you can get from a chemist, Trademe, or any number of other places, you'll be set! Also, you can get a blood test done on about day 22 of your cycle, if you have a normal length cycle, and this will tell if you are ovulating as well - they measure the hormones in your blood.
Also, if you're not ovulating, you cannot get pregnant. Ovulation is the process where the egg is released for fertilisation. Without an egg, there's nothing to fertilise, so no hope at all of pregnancy.

ok so ideally it is best to have intercourse around the time of ovulation. in order to get pregnant. I do get each month this white sticky stuff..would this mean I am ovulating sorry If I sound blonde.
my cycle has been funny since I came off the pill april last year..my period is usually 1-2 days and I get virtually no cramping and it is very light I have also discovered my cycle is around 25 days.

Having a regular cycle is a good thing - *usually* if you aren't ovulating, your cycles aren't regular. But, you'll want to chart to make sure.
If it's sort of like a blob of stretchy white CM (like egg white) then that's a good indication of ovulation as well.
And yes - when you ovulate, the egg is viable for fertilisation for only about 12-24 hours, so if you want to get pregnant, then yes, you need to be having intercourse around ovulation.

Good luck Megan. Hopefully you'll be off in the pregnancy section in no time at all! :o) Feel free to ask questions - these ladies are incredibly knowledgable and share and explain things in simple terms. Much better than a text book!
I am thinking of giving in and charting myself this month (and taking Robitussin!!). Could someone please tell me if you have to have a basal thermometer, or if a normal one is sufficient.
Thanks.

It has to be a Basal Thermometer (so the charting guru told me).

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
