Topic: Help -TTC Questions! Posted: 15 December 2006 at 1:22pm |
Hi there I am relatively new to this site, so please excuse my ignorance I know absolutely nothing about this subject! I am still part of the "otherside" (NZWP) and am getting married in 6 weeks time!! We are planning to ttc pretty much straight away but I know nothing about conceiving or when I am likely to conceive etc. I have been off the pill for over a year now (been using condoms - eewww, be glad to give those up finally!) I had been on the pill since I was 13 to regulate my periods, thought now that I am nearly 30 I should give my body a good break!
So my question is, when are women most fertile in their cycle? I currently get AF every month like clockwork, nothing changed from being on the pill to being off it, except AF is quite alot heavier. I've been reading in other posts how some girls count days etc, can someone please explain......TIA

Hi Peachy
The very, *very* best thing for you to do, and you can start on the first day of your cycle, is take your temperature daily, and this will show you when you are ovulating. For all temping information - I suggest hunting down Jess (Jezsika)- she is queen of information on temping, and happy to help anyone!
You can get a BBT thermometer from the chemist, and they also have instructions and often come with a chart that you can photocopy and use to plot your cycle.

Jess will probably be on here shortly to give you all the talk about day-counting AKA charting
Basically there are two kinds of TTC: charting and making sure you "do it" on the right days and things like that, or just casual when you don't worry too much about whether you get preg at the beginning of the year or the end and just go for it when you feel like it. If I were you, I think I'd prefer to try the casual way for say 3-6 months and if nothing happened by then, give charting a go. Your fertile time is roughly days 11-14 in a 28 day cycle.

To be honest i'd take busymums advice on taking it casually for the first few months. Nothing like adding extra pressure to newly weds by charting straight away. if you have a regular cycle, you would ovulate approx 14 days before AF is due so if you have a 28 day cylce ovulation likely to occur on day 14, 29 day cycle day 15 and so on. Best to BD every second day from day 7 to day 18 of your cycle just in case you don't ovulate at the exact day you thought.
Best of luck for the wedding and your TTC journey.

Heya im Jess
Honestly i would enjoy your wedding and your honeymoon it only happens once. Once you get back if your not pregnant and want to look into charting some more i am more than willing to help you out
Temping is good to know when you are ovulating and if there are any probs in your cycle. Who knows u could conceive your honeymoon baby with no probs
Good luck to you

Hi ladies, well our wedding was AMAZING! We had the best day of our lives, everything was picture perfect, even the dodgy Auckland weather was good to us! So now back from honeymoon and our ttc journey begins, well actually it began on the wedding night te he!! We are both so excited to enter this new phase of our lives together. Will post some pics of our wedding when we get them from the photographer. The proofs will be ready this week - so can't wait to see them!

Well our ttc journey has had a sudden surprise today!
Have been feeling rather off the last week or so and AF is a bit late, my boobs were the giveaway I think too, they have been aching like mad!
So I tested this afternoon without DH knowing (tutt tutt), and BFP!!! So rung and told him, he's so excited, but a little nervous just as I am!!!
So anyway, went off to do the food shopping tonight and I thought, is this for real, I need a second confirmation just to prove I have not got my head in the clouds, so brought another test and BFP again! So I think I might be pregnant and it possibly could be a wedding night baby!!!
