Hi, just wondering if anyone has experience with Birthcare (either Parnell or Warkworth) as well as just going home from hospital: trying to decide if it's really worth it to go into Birthcare for a few days before heading home.
From what I can gather from reading on the internet, and friends who've gone to birthcare, there isn't that much extra value that you wouldn't get anyway from hospital staff/midwife/plunket/ post-birth classes so is there anything else that makes birthcare so special?
If you birth at Auckland Hospital you get transferred there anyway (immediately after a normal delivery, or after 2 days if you have a c-section) . Your entitled to 3 nights, I found I was ready to go after 2. The benefit is the midwife-paitent ratio is much higher so they have more time to spend with you. Auckland Hospital was great but they are so busy dealing with sick mums & babies, if all is well with you, you just don't get seen much. So Birthcare is great for the breastfeeding support and basic things like learning how to bath your baby. I hated sharing a room though which unfortunately is the norm unless you birth there, or are prepared to pay to go private.
I had #1 and #2 at Waitakere Hospital, #3 at Birthcare Parnell and plan to have #4 at Birthcare Parnell in about 6wks. Birthcare is so much nicer if you ask me, the rooms are nicer (I birthed there so got a private room), the food is better, the midwife attention was a heck of alot better. If I didn't birth there though I wouldn't go, I couldn't justify the cost of paying to stay there. But it is my first choice of place to go.
