Hi all!
I am sure this question has probably been asked in the already pregnant sections, but I am thinking ahead!
I think I can work out how much pay I will get while on maternity leave, but I have been wondering what else is available to families on one income (I plan to take a year off work).
Does it come in the form of a payment or is it a tax break instead? I know things like this also depend on what you income is as well.
I have found the government websites confusing as they seem to want you to fill in forms etc, which I am not ready to do just yet, I am just trying to find out more information!
:)

Hi blinkle it has been a while for me but you will get paid maternity leave and working for families, both paid weekly into yr account. You can get working for families lump summed at th end of th tax year if you want.depending when baby is born will make a big difference as to how much working for families you will get. My dd was born at th end of July so they counted my income along with DP income from the 31 of March til thEn which made it quite high for th year and we got less. Th online calculators are really gd, on IRD website, th Info doesn't get sent to IRD. Will be more accurate when you have an EDD though.
There are also lots of savings you can make at home to make living on one income easier. :-)

Depending on your employment situation you should be eligible for 14 weeks of Paid Parental Leave (PPL) from IRD. You get around $840 a fortnight. Some employers may top it up, but not that many do unfortunately.

Working for Families will depend on your partners income. I think the thresholds are quite low though, we never qualified for it.
