I think it's at least folic acid (800 mg). I know the nurses at fertility associates asked me several different times if I was taking it. I take elevit but that won't be a long term thing that's for sure as its pricey. Only started taking it once I started fertility treatment. All the best with your journey.

Folate can be prescribed (at a much nicer price than any combined prenatal vitamin, $5 for 3 months, I don't think they do longer...) and in NZ is prescribed at 800mg, but apparently only needs to be at 400mg? Meh, that level is not going to hurt!
Dr said I could top up my iodine levels a little (table salt/iodised salt), as it is recommended in the first 3 months of pregnancy (got a prescription for that too!). Dr also got bloods done which included iron levels, I would assume that if they thought I needed to up my iron I would have been told/given a prescription for that too.
If you are already taking a multivitamin I guess you would just move to a prenatal one which contains folate, or go to the Dr, discuss everything, and get the stuff you need on prescription (and save $$ in the long run)

I'm using Blackmores Concieve Well Gold which is 2x tablets once a day. One is like the multivitamin side and the other has fish oil etc. I find them good, Elevit makes me constipated & nauseous

Definitely Folic Acid (800 micrograms) and Iodine (150 micrograms) are NZ Govt recommendations for pregnant women, and most medical professionals will tell you that that's all you need. If you feel you want to give yourself a boost though, go for a pregnancy supplement. Be careful with Blackmores Conceive Well Gold as it only has 500 micrograms of folic acid - definitely switch to something else like Elevit when you are actually pregnant, which has the 800 micrograms. I took the Blackmores Conceive Well Gold about 6 months before trying, then switched to Elevit once I conceived (well, actually a week before since I had a feeling that month would be THE ONE!). I didn't have any morning sickness, and that might be partly because of all the B vitamins I was getting from my supplements! Having said that, though, my mum didn't have morning sickness either so I kind of think it's mostly genetic!

Ministry of Health only recommend that pregnant woman take 600micrograms per day of folate, this is only 200micrograms more than what is recommended for the average adult. Depending on what you currently consume in your normal diet, Blackmores will be fine. See here for where I found the info

I personally take obstetrician prescribed folate and iodine.. Didn't ask questions really.. Just trusted her prescription/dosage (can tell you how much of each I take in the morning)
I also take fish oil because I always have, and I know it's good anyway. I take 2 capsules daily.
In between AF and OV I have been drinking raspberry leaf tea too, to help with uterine health and ease AF pains etc. I avoid it I after OV as there's some speculation it could be too "stimulating" for a weak womb, and I wouldn't want to take chances!!

Thanks for that Spitfire - my endocrinologist/fertility specialist advised me 800 micrograms but that was two years ago so maybe it's changed since! Don't think it will hurt to have a little extra though if you're already taking Elevit - if your baby is at risk of neural tube defects I think they prescribe you something like 5000 micrograms! Either way, you can't go wrong with what your GP/obstetricain/midwife prescribes

Oh, actually it hasn't changed. Just found this paragraph in your link Spitfire19: 'Women at low risk of a NTD affected pregnancy who plan to become pregnant, are recommended to take a 800 µg of folic acid daily for at least four weeks prior to conception and for 12 weeks after conceiving to reduce the risk of NTDs. More information can be found in the the Health Education resource Folic Acid and Iodine.'

I have been reading a lot of info regarding a good vitamin complex for both me an my wife because we have started a healthier life style with a lot more exercise and healthier food choices. I also have been thinking of starting to take vitamins especially now in the pandemic and with the whole flu season upon us. I have been googling to find out people's opinions on different brands and vitamin complexes. I decided to order a box of Garden of Life vitamins since they seemed to be really good judging by peoples reviews as well as they have a really attractive price point. I am still waiting on my shipping but I think that I will be happy with the effect they have on me. I hope that you guys are staying safe and healthy during this pandemic. I'll post my thoughts on the vitamins later
