Hi all,
Our 9 month old DD has just over the past few days gone from eating well and a good amount to a screaming nightmare and eating hardly anything off a spoon at meal times. She is fine with feeding herself finger foods, but she takes in no where near as much as she does when we feed her with a spoon. This happened about six weeks ago too and lasted a few weeks until her first two teeth popped through. She had been very dribbly and constantly chewing on something with the side of her mouth so I'm thinking its probably teeth again but goodness, if we have to go through this everytime teeth come through, then food is going to be a constant battle. I'm scared she isn't getting all the goodness and nutrients she needs. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get more food into her or have any of you been in a similar situation? Thanks :-)

The saying goes 'food before one is just for fun' so as long as she is taking in milk/fluids, and seemingly happy enough, I wouldnt stress about her missing out on meals at this point. The fact she has done it before and come back to it after her teeth cut is a good thing - you know that teeth were the reason before, so its highly likely the reason again, and she should come back to finger foods once her gums arent so sore!

Keep persevering with solids, perhaps try offering cold and/or soft foods, such as yoghurt or purees, as they might be nicer on her sore gums. Offer her some cold teething rings if you havent already, or possibly ice or frozen puree's in a mesh bag thing - nice and cold to chew on, and she will no doubt take some of the food in.

Good luck, hope the teeth cut soon and she gets back to eating like she was before

Yeah so hard not to worry - I have done just about everything to get my little one to eat - and I still worry.
But what I found that works (and it is a bad habit) is feeding in-front of the TV / laptop with a dvd or youtube on.
Good luck and try not to worry.

Thanks everyone! Yay my predictions of teething were correct. Just saw another little white spot on DD's gum tonight which explains why I have had a grumpy wee girl over the past few days. Fingers crossed she goes back to normal and starts eating properly again :-)
