Hello,

I need a little bit of advice. My DP and I would like to start trying for our first baby. I'm and Aussie and DP is a Kiwi. We are moving to Australia in approx 2 months but we are having trouble on deciding when to start trying.

I would like to start now (we are still in NZ) whereas he feels it is best to wait til we are in Aussie and a little bit more set up (in terms of jobs, finding a rental house etc). However I'm concerned it may take a while to fall pregnant, there is no guarantee it will happen immediately and his concern is me and the stress the move could have on the baby if we were to fall immediately.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation, given I have never been pregnant before I don't know how it will effect me.

Thanks!

Well I am in the exact same situation, except we are coming the other way. (Aussie to NZ)

The only thing I can suggest is to remember that if you are moving in 2 months and you do fall pregnant, you may have morning sickness, and that would be pretty unpleasent while in the middle of moving....

If you have things like a job, house etc lined up when you get to Aus, then I would try now... but if you are not sure of those things, then I would hold off until you have some security, as you want to relax and enjoy your pregnancy, and not feel stressed.

I was 8 weeks pregnant when we moved to Australia. I had bad morning sickness and was bedbound for the first 2 weeks so it wasn't ideal. But we got through it and managed to find a rental house etc. Luckily it was my 1st child so I didn't have a toddler to deal with as well.
Now we are back in NZ though after 3 years in Oz.
All the best with your move and TTC.
