I got my results of my first day 21 bloods today, my progesterone is only at 20.6, and from searching on here, that's quite low
I was so sure I ovulated too, since my temp dropped, I got a + OPK and had bloating/cramping all on day 14.

What can I take, to get my progesterone up? Something herbal/natural that I can buy from a pharmacy or supermarket or health food store?

Edit - I just searched again and found info about Vitex, it says not safe to take during pregnancy, what if I get UTD whilst taking Vitex??

No idea about Vitex but I use a natural progesterone cream that I get from my accupuncturist/natural health practioner. I use it at night from cycle days 12-28. Ive also got a homrone balancing spray from a herbalist which a friend is also taking to bopost her progesterone. Accupuncture can help to level/normalise hormone levels also.

I went to the health store at lunchtime and got the lady there to check in her big book of herbs, if Vitex is safe for pregnancy - it says in bold print that it's not! so I won't be taking that, what happens if you fall preg when taking it!!
Got some evening primrose oil instead.

Can your dr put you on progesterone supplements or do you only want to try natural supplements. From what I've learnt in my research your levels need to be at around 30 on the 21 day test, does that sound right to you, also you probably did ovulate as far as I know low progesterone doesn't stop you from ovulating but may cause problems with sustaining the pregnancy.

Yeah I'll talk to the Dr next time I see her, this is only my first of the day 21 bloods, so will see what the others are like. I am happy to go on progesterone supplements, the only reason I said natural, as I can buy that myself and get started without having to go to the Dr.
I think if they are all this level, that she'll refer us to a fertility specialist. I really hope it doesn't come to that though

EDIT - I just googled, and apparently 20 isn't that low, and people have maintained pregnancies at lower than that, and a few say their fertility specialist want them at a level of atleast 20.

Guess I will just wait and see!

An alternative theory - overseas vitex must be labelled as unsafe for use while pregnant. However I have a bottle of blackmores vitex and it does not say that anywhere on the bottle.

The theory is that it is dangerous because it increases the risk of miscarriage, but there is no evidence that I can find regarding that.

All the evidence I have found points towards it reducing the chances of early miscarriage, and stopping it suddenly will cause a sudden imbalance of estrogen and progesterone which may result in a miscarriage.

If you have a hormonal imbalance, it is recommended that you use vitex for the first 12 weeks until the placenta takes over.

I would also recommend a B vitamin complex.

I have just started this regime following four losses, I will also start progesterone pessaries following ov.

Hey dottydot, I am in the exact same boat with the exact same deficiency stats.

I have got natural progesterone cream, am taking B complex and Vit C and something similar to vitex. I have also gone to the chiropractor and have been told my L3 is out which can directly affect the reproductive organs.

If you want natural progesterone cream here is where I went:
http://nz.store.wellsprings-health.com/

It says it's for menopause but it's all in the cycle time you use it, day 12-1st day of period is for fertility.

Good luck and keep me posted! Since we are in the same boat I'm really interested to see how you get on

thanks for that BeanSprout, that's really interesting! Maybe I'll get some of that progesterone cream to use, and hunt out some vit B complex - where did you get that from? And what vit C are you taking?

I haven't spoken to my GP about my tests yet, as I've only had the one blood test so far, so maybe I should hold off trying any supplements until I've had the three tests

I've got problems with my back (Lumbar region) at the mo funnily enough too, and off to see a musculoskeletal specialist next week, so will be interesting to see what he says in relation to getting UTD too. Never thought that could relate to it!

Just watch as some B vit complex's (eg the Blackmores Executive Stress B) have passiflower in them and that is not safe during the first three months of pregnancy.

I took Vitex (I have pcos and a history of mc, low progesterone etc) for my last pregnancy. It takes 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer, to get into your system.
I'd been taking it a few weeks when I got UTD, I then continued to take it and used a natural progesterone cream (you need to make sure it isn't one based on Soy, I rubbed it on my belly), right through til 14 weeks (which is when the placenta takes over completely), and then weaned off the vitex over the next fortnight.

Worked well for me, the result is sitting on the table next to me gobbling jam sandwiches! I'll likely be doing it again when we start ttc next summer.

It ha been about two weeks since I started using vitex and the B complex - I have been feeling awesome, really positive and cheerful - I had my best day at work all year on Friday, yet to see the effects of vitex though which is to be expected

I had to share!
Just got my day 21 bloods results back (which I went for yesterday, CD22) and my progesterone was up at 38nmol! YUSS!!! Last month it was 20.6.
I am so relieved!
I have been taking evening primrose oil this month, so I wonder if that has helped things?

Here's hoping there's a sticky baby for DH and I this month! We've been BD every day, and he's got good swimmers. Fingers crossed :)

hehe and yes, I posted the same thing in the Charting thread, just coz I am so stoked :)
