My DS aged 2 1/2 is not a fan of Carbs, he doesn't like potato, rice or pasta. The only carbs he really eats is bread and chips.
My question is, Is it vitally important he has carbs with dinner?
We try and maintain the if he doesnt eat all his dinner he doesn't get anything else coz I don't wanna give in to fussiness. He eats plenty of the meat and most of the veg so its not like he is starving and he eats his toast \ sandwiches for breakfast and lucnh.
I wouldn't worry. He eats bread for breakfast and lunch, obviously that's enough for him.
And he eats meat and veges for dinner.
Sounds to me he gets a bit of everything. He just spreads it differently over the day than most adults do.
Carrots, corn and peas are also carbs - many of our veges are so I imagine he is probably getting enough. My DS doesn't eat bread but he still gets offered it. We don't make a big deal of it either as like you we don't want/need a battle zone.
I'd keep putting some on his plate, if he's like my son, one day after a year of not eating them he will declare in the supermarket to a lady I love potatoes, and then come home and eat them.....just one day mind you, the next day he didn't like them again.
My daughters not a fan either she does eat cereal for breakfast which is plenty of carbs. I give her same as what we are having and she eats what she wants.
I worked out over the course of the day she's getting a nutritionally varied diet even though it may not seem so at one particular meal time.
