hey when do babies usually have a pillow?
My mother was sort of pressuring me to have one for my 16 month old as she put a blanket on her and she stayed under it all night because the pillow was there.
She gave me a really flat pillow. What do you guys think?
I think you're meant to wait till they're over one. I gave DS one about then and found the same thing - that he tended to stay in the same place a bit more with a pillow.
Ive only just given DS one in the last month ( he was 2 in Jan)- but thats cos he's a tummy sleeper- its a really thin toddler one. DD had one a lot early, cant remember exactly when , by 18months tho.
I think the SIDS recommendation is not before they are 2.
But I gave one of my girls one a few weeks ago and her sister one last week. They had been sleeping our bed a bit and using our pillows so had gotten used to them.
My due date forum had this discussion recently and apparently it's a known thing - that giving them a pillow helps "anchor" them in one place
ha not sure Tom having a pillow helps 'anchor' him. He has had one since 18mths but still sleeps all over his cot- sometimes he sleeps on his pillow, other time he cuddles it. He has a really thin baby one.
I gave my DD a folded waffle blanket under her sheet around 8-9 months as she was bunching her hands or blankets under her. I always heard 12+ months. Around 18 months or so we upgraded to a small above the sheet pillow as the firm blanket under the sheet was no longer enough (she started bunching her blanket under her head again and started back sleeping) and she seems fine with that.
Those of you who have used pillows before 2 was it a special toddler one? I got DS a kids pilow but it is quite fluffy and not flat like the toddler pillows so Im worried about using it now, went for the kids one as the toddler ones are quite expensive for what they are!
Me 28, DH 29 DS born 20 Nov 2010 (4 years old) #2 due October 7
We put a pillow in the cot around 13-14 mths I think? I didn't know there were any particular rules! It is actually a cushion - a small flat cushion but is the right size for cot pillow cases so I assume actual cot pillows are the same size. I started using it as M was lying her head on her bunched up snuggle blanket, and was also scooching right up the cot to the top bars. The pillow does keep her in one place a lot more and she usually has her head on it, unless it's really cold overnight and then she actually scooches down under her blankets instead...
I figured by a year old the main SIDs danger was long past.
