We've just moved to NZ (from UK) with our (almost) 11 month old daughter.

We've not been here long enough to have formed a circle of friends so a party would be out of the question - although I'm sure she wouldn't mind!

Can anyone suggest anywhere that we could take her for a day trip in or around Wellington?

Up until late November I didn't think that we'd get our visas so imagined lots of cool party themes and who would come and celebrate with us but now I feel a bit deflated at the idea and almost a bit of a failure to her when she asks me in 20 years what we did!

I'd really appreciate any ideas you could share.

Hi there, we are in Wellington too. For our daughters first birthday we went to the zoo. And for my sons first birthday (this week!) we are looking at going to Staglands. Check it out: http://www.staglands.co.nz/ We haven't had parties there - just a family day together.

Don't feel like a failure. Have a lovely day out filled with fun. Even if you just have a picnic in the park with ice cream and cake it will be super special.

Hope you have a lovely time and good luck!

Where abouts in the UK were you from? I was brought up in Reading but lived in Swansea for 10 years before moving out here.

My younger daughter is 1 in April. I am going back to work soon, but let let me know if you want to meet up for a chat/coffee.

ETA - Coffee??? We're British - I obviously mean tea

The zoo, staglands or Lindale are all good options for fun days out for the family. My DS's 1st birthday is tomorrow and we're going to Lindale and then for lunch.
