Hoping you can all help me. We are flying to Oz in March with our 18mth old. Can you please let me know must haves required for the plane? I'm getting anxious that we're not going to be able to keep him happy for the duration of the flight. TIA
Up the Duff with #2. DS turns 3 in July.

Hey there.

We had our first trip on a plane not too long ago. We had plenty of snacks, books and small toys. ANything that is special to them that you know will calm them down.

Also lollipops (sugarfree if u prefer) for take of and landing as the sucking stops their ears from hurting.

Also it pays not to be to worried about what others think. If bubs is noisy or crying its what they do people need to accept that

I've done Auckland - Frankfurt twice on my own. My daughter was 6 month and then 12 months last time.

I hardly took any toys, she was much more interested in things such as the cup holder and remote on the seats. We got hours of fun out of that one. And if she wasn't playing she was eating, so I'd pack plenty of snacks. Ideally something that doesn't make too much of a mess but takes a while to eat, like grapes, popcorn, muesli bars.

Maybe also get him used to headphones so he can watch TV - we are currently practicing that for our next trip when she will be 18 months old.
Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

We've flown a few times with DS at various ages from 5 months to two years. The last time (just before his second birthday) was probably the hardest because he's so mobile and understandably doesn't like sitting still for long periods of time. We took a little backpack on board filled with snacks/drinks/toys/books/stickers and just gave him one thing at a time to try and keep him occupied. re snacks - I second the minimum mess maximum time philosophy - those little boxes of raisins are good too. Takes DS ages to get the last ones out!

On a longer flight like the one you have planned you will be able to get up and go for walks up and down the plane which can kill some time too, esp when the little old ladies will want you to stop and chat :)

Good idea from sem to practice using headphones before you go!!

The TV screens def help occupy them, and look after your bubs need, don't worry about anybody else. I had trouble getting bubs off to sleep in her Manduca and kept saying to myself that I wouldn't have to see these people again and my babies needs were more important!
