My 2yr old has dried blood in his ear. Looks like it's come out of the ear canal, but I really can't be sure. It's dried, not like it's still coming out or anything. He doesn't seem phased by it, until I start poking it clean it up. He is a child who pokes his own ears when he's tired.
Other than that, he's completely fine. No sign of being sick or upset or grumpy or anything.
I'd say it's up to you as to whether to take him to the Dr. I'd give it a day or so and see if anything else (pulling at the ear, fever, fussiness) goes along with it. The blood could have come from, as you say, him poking his ear (mine gets cuts in her ears if I don't keep those nails ultra trimmed). If it was from an ear infection the ruptures gone and happened already. And you probably would have known about that. I've had my own eardrum rupture several times (and blood come out) and the build up to that is not fun. Eardrum ruptures heal on their own as well, so unless he had an infection there's not much a Dr could do other than have a look in there. If he's not bothered (no fever or other pulling at the ear) I wouldn't really worry about it unless it continues.
Could be a ruptured ear drum. All fine but they do suggest getting the ear checked about 3 weeks later as there are a small percentage of cases where it doesn't heal over properly.
