When did you tell family, friends, work you were pregnant? Do you think it's best to wait for the second trimester to tell?

I come from a country where people tell everyone the minute they check the test, so as early as possible.

Being in NZ made it a bit tricky, so I told my family back home the minute I found out, but we held back telling my husband's family until week 12 [because there were miscarriages across the family ].

It's a hit and miss to me, I guess you tell people when you're mentally ready and when you have embraced it completely.

I told close family (DP obviously, my mum/dad/sister, and DP's Mum/dad/brother) as soon as I found out pretty much with both of them. Then with my first I ended up telling work at about 8 weeks as I got morning sickness quite bad (at least for me :P) I told all and sundry after the 13 week scan.
2nd time round i wasn't working but I was so excited once I'd had an 8 weeks scan I told all my friends and acquaintances.
I think I put it on facebook after the 20 week scan and announced she was going to be a girl.

I think in the first trimester you should tell people that you would be comfortable knowing if you had a miscarriage and who you would like for support.

Both times we have told people pretty much straight away, as both of us were excited and neither are good with secrets!!
However as they both didn't end well with early MC we will be waiting till 12 weeks when we do finally fall again with a sticky little bubba.

We told our immediate families straight away. And one girl at work because I took a pregnancy test on a loo break and I was so excited that I had to tell someone!
I told my boss when the morning sickness hit but everyone else we waited til after our scan at 13weeks because I had a lot of early bleeding, and was too scared I might jinx it if I told people too soon.

We told close friends and family (oh and OB ) straightaway. I also told my manager pretty quickly so she'd understand if I was sick or tired. Then we told everyone else after 12 week scan.

Not many people knew that we were TTC to begin with. Started TTC in April 2008, first got pregnant in Jan 2010.

Pregnancy #1 - Told my folks, DH's folks and my three besties. Miscarried a few days later.

Pregnancy #2 - People had said to us that a lot of first pregnancies don't work out, so we were sure we'd be sweet and told everyone. Mum got cancer, cousin killed himself, then I miscarried. Inbetween all the other drama, people forgot that I'd announced a pregnancy so I didn't have to un-tell a load of people.

Pregnancy #3 - Told everyone again, it just slipped out. Miscarried again. Had to tell everyone, was horrible.

PRegnancy #4 - Only my folks, DH's folks, my bestie and my boss knew until 13 weeks. Now 25 weeks pregnant and my big belly is letting everyone know that I'm UTD!

1st pregnancy - my supervisor just knew based on my sudden need for the toilet every 5min so she was ok with a change of duties when it got real bad. Sick from week 4 to 10 when m/c. Hadn't told any friends

2nd pregnancy - told boss day after I found out to ask for a change of client, it couldn't be arranged and an accident at work ended my pregnancy so she knew all about it (as did every area manager and chief boss for my work company). M/c 1 week 5 days after finding out and inky our parents knew.

3rd pregnancy (chemical pregnancy) - boss knew as reflux has made for a horible 3 weeks and a few shifts off sick. Have told a few friends (who are preg or have kids) for support. Also told a workmate as she busted me having a spew at work and it wasn't possible to pass it off as a hangover on a Wednesday afternoon.

We waited till after the 12w scan, then Mothers day was a week later so we announced to family then.

Still haven't put anything up on facebook about it... not sure when we'll put anything up there to be honest. feel a bit mean when we bump into people in town who we havent seen for ages and they are only just finding out when i'm 35w+ - OPS!
