Topic: Elevit Multivitamins... Posted: 12 August 2011 at 7:19am |
I have been off the BCP for 6 plus months and my cycles have ranged from 14 days to 70odd days and LPs of the two cycles that I have ovulated 18 days and 10 days.
Anyway, in the hope that they might be worth their money, I brought some elevit womans multivitamins, but couldnt afford the one for pregnancy. Is the only serious difference among them that it doesnt contain the level's of folic acid and iodine (got those from the doctor).
They all seemed to vary so much with levels (the multivitamins that is!) and elevit seemed to be the best allround levels that I found.... It was just a slight concern the notice saying that if you are pg or planning to TTC then to consult your doctor before taking!!
Any help about this or anything else I should be taking and where I can get it resonably priced would be great!!
TIA

Not sure about the differences between them but I usually buy Elevit online from Pharmacy Direct as it seems to be cheaper than the shops, although some pharmacies have it on special.

I didn't bother with any of that for my first. The only thing I took was Folic Acid, and after blood's the only thing I needed to take was B12. In fact, my B12's were so low that I couldn't convince my doctor that I wasn't a vegetarian! But she didn't tell that increasing the amounts of eggs I ate could've had a significant impact on my B12 levels. I only found this out via a Pregnancy mag when I was 6 months.
EDIT: Just relised thats not a very helpful post! I second Pharmacy Directs website reccomendation. Have a look there.

I think the main concern is Folic and getting enough iron, once you get preg then your LMC can script you some iodene. We have been trying to concive and I brought Elevit also hoping it would be my magic wand (knowing full well it wouldnt be but still)
And after talking with the herb specialist, decided it was way to pricey and just a "brand" you can get all the same things from a multi just watch the Vit A leavels and maybe talk to a health shop pro they will sort you out for much much cheaper good luck.

Hey yep folic acid and iodine are the only really important ones, and iron but only if your stores are low. Same goes for B12, only if stores are low. For all teh rest of the stuff that is in ellevit there is no scientific evidence that there's any benefit. So save your money I'd say! (But like Topkat said, whatever you end up taking make sure it doesn't have any Vit A in it, specifically in the form of retinol)

You could also try Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding supplement. The new ones also have iodine and it's much cheaper than Elevit. I did use Elevit for the first 3 months, then after that I just use the Blackmores one.

Elevit is a bit of a rip - I used the blackmores multivitamin and got the folic acid on script and then iron on script later on in my pregnancy.
