Topic: light periods after baby Posted: 01 August 2011 at 11:16pm |
wondering if this is normal?
before i got pregnant af was 7 days long, and heavyish for 3-4 days... DS is now 18 months, still breastfed, AF is mostly regular and still 7 days but so so light. I've had AF back for a year now, just makes me wonder if I'm not as fertile because I'm still BF.

Im a bit different cos I got an iud when DS was 6weeks old, so when my period returned when he was 11 months, it may well have been affected by the iud being in. Cycles were longer than usual at first and AF was much heavier, longer and more painful.
Now with IUD out AF is shorter and definatly lighter than pre- pregnancy too. Am still bf too.
All 3 of us think its prob taking longer ttc due to bf. Heaps of people get preg while bf tho, but seems there might be a link with us 3! We might all have May or June babies next time!!

Cycles can change after birth. Mine used to last 7 days with medium to heavy flow. When they returned at 13 months post partum, they were not as long, and not as heavy. I was breastfeeding at the time, but even now I'm not breastfeeding, they're still shorter 3-4 days and lighter. We haven't conceived again yet, still trying, but I think a 7 day AF is on the long side of "ideal". A "normal" AF should be 3-5 days long. So maybe it's a good thing that they're shorter and lighter.

My cycles pre-baby were always about 4 days and medium-light flow. My first cycle post-baby was basically just spotting for 10days, the second was really heavy and the following couple were really really light and short again.
DS still BF'd around 12-15 times in a 24 hour period and I got pregnant after 2 cycles, whereas TTC DS it took almost 6.
There is still hope for you ladies
