Hi,

Just curious, how do your littlies react when they have ear infections??

DS1 hasn't had any for about a year and now we've had two in a fortnight, although Dr suspects it didn't clear up properly, anyway he got sick last night and we are on anti biotics today he is ok, but so feisty, aggressive almost, he is normally super placid, not really argumentative but he would have argued about anything today got worse this evening as he was tired on top of everything else, I tried to remain calm I know he isn't feeling well.

Just interested what others have noticed?

My DS had constant ear infections last winter. He ended up getting grommets in early September. We have just now jumped back on the ear infections roundabout. Hes had 3 in the past 7 weeks and the grommets have fallen out in the last two weeks.

He normally starts waking at night, being particularly grizzly and crys alot. He seldom runs a temp though.

Good luck. Ear infections suck!

Have had a few ear infections here last four months or so; DS gets grizzly, sleeping goes to the pack, and he does get a bit agitated too (last time it got to the stage where he pinches me around my neck/decollatage area if I'm holding him, swats at me or hits out at other times - I guess all born out of frustration). Then when on the ABs often gets a little hyper

Does everyones babies tug at their ears with infections? My wee man is really grizzly and has been since Thursday. I can't figure out if it is teething or something else. I thought perhaps an ear infection but he isn't running a temp and is happy some of the time. He won't go in his jolly jumper which he usually loves and I thought perhaps pressure in his ear may be a reason?

Not all babies with ear infections tug their ears and quite often they'll tug their ears for no reason, just cause they ae there

Ds gets really unsettled at night won't sleep then spikes a temp around midnight.   But he is usally just fine during the day. He doez tend to get more aggressive but I guess thats the pain and probaly frustration as feeling awful.

Clover you could get him checked out ayways.

DS gets very grizzly, has a fever, sticks his finger in his ear, often has a snotty nose, and is just really miserable. Lots of lying on the floor crying, crawl 3 steps, stop, cry some more.

My boys screamed when they woke up with the pain in their ears. They would pull their ears and I got to know that when they did that they had an ear infection. Both boys on the first day of the infection after getting antibugs would be very quiet and reserved and usually have a roaring fever. Once the antibugs had kicked in they went to being themselves (loud and generally being boys).

I have done 2 sets of grommets for each child and possibly going to do another set for my youngest child. They are wonderful things once they are put in for childrens ears.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Angie thats interesting about what you say about the AB's making him hyper, FIn was off the wall last night and its not normal for him at all - was crazy happily he had a great sleep, think we caught this infection really early so that helps.

Whenever DS has had ear infections he has been perfectly fine in the day time, but come night he just crys and crys and crys and feeds constantly. He often ends up with a cold too and can get a temp with it.

Of all the ear infections he's had, and there has been a few, he has never ever tugged at his ears. From what I've read they can't distinguish where the pain is coming from, so wouldn't even think to touch their ears, they just know they are sore and uncomfortable. Obviously though that changes as they get older.

my boy has had a few ear infections recently and he has never tugged his ear - just got snotty and grumpy. No fever, but then his ear has been leaking the fluid so not a much pressure build up.
I would get him checked if i thought it was an issue

I'm going to buck the trend and say my girl knows and has always known the pain is in her ears. Pre-grommets, she'd finish every meal with food smeared all through her hair around her ears cos she tugged at them constantly, and her ears were permanently covered in scabs and scratches where she'd gouged them with her fingernails. Plus she'd come home from daycare with sand in them cos she'd been rubbing sandy hands on them whilst playing in the sandpit. Immediately after grommets, all this disappeared instantly (I even got to stop washing her hair after each meal!).

Now, she's back to getting heaps and her ears are back to scratched and sandy again. She's got better manners these days so tends to eat with cutlery now

The other giveaway is issues with lying flat. She'll relax and fall asleep on your shoulder if it's a mild infection, but wake the instant you try to lay her down. If it's a bad infection, she screams in your arms as much as in bed. But it's definitely worse at night.

My little girl has only had the one ear/throat infection. She was just super cuddly, didn't want to do ANYTHING, just sat on our laps and sucked her fingers and slept alot. 2 days of anti biotics and she was right as rain again.

She didn't actually pull at her ears or anything, just had a nasty cough and runny nose. We thought a throat infection so took her to the docs the next day (were closed that night) and he just looked at her ears and said right she gets anti-biotics, he never checked her throat.
Kiara is 3 and Teagan is 2, now we're expecting our long awaited 3rd!

This thread is timely for us! My DS2 has his first ear infection at the moment and he's miserable    No tugging at his ears here, but he has been a real pain about sleeps particularly at night. He's also had a higher than normal temperature (but not a raging fever) since yesterday and normal cold symptoms as well.

I took him to the paed this morning when he woke up with a high temp and still looking like he hadn't had any sleep at all. She checked his ears and throat and said both look red and we've come home with antibiotics, brufen and ear drops. Crossing my fingers that this means tonight will be a bit easier, but I suspect it'll be another couple of days at least before he's feeling brighter
