Topic: Short LP - B6 did nothing Posted: 28 July 2011 at 3:22pm |
So my Luteal phase is 9/10 days. This was my first month using Vitamin B6 and AF has just arrived so my cycle was around 24 days and i ovulated on about Day 16 (pos OPK on Day 15) Any other suggestions? I was sure B6 would make a little difference at least but nothing. Grrrr, feeling a bit down about it all

I don't really know but maybe you need to use the B6 for longer before seeing results? What about vitex?

maybe since you cycle is so short you might have better luck with your second cycle? im also using b6 to lengthen luteal phase 9 - 12 days, but i have longer cycles and o between cd 22 and 29, this is my first cycle using it and i think it might be making me O earlier

From what i have heard you generally O at the same time as previously but the time between O and AF arriving lengthens, I O'ed around Day 16 as usual but AF is rearing her ugly head this arvo. I did quite a bit of reading which suggested that those who had used it worked from month 1. Thinking i might give Vitex a go, need to look into when to use it. Do you use it the entire cycle or just a certain time? Thanks :-)

I know the disappointment of short LP's. Mine is 9 days too.
I started taking Vitex and B6 at the same time, (back in April 2010), as my LP at that time was 7 days. It lengthened it to 9 days, but that's where it's stuck since (with the odd exception of one or two 10+ LP's).
I think it was the Vitex rather than the B6 alone that helped, but as with anything like supplements or herbs, you need to use them for more than one cycle to see the full benefits. Vitex takes 3-6 months to become fully effective. Not sure on the B6, but one month is probably too soon to say it didn't work for definite.
What dose were you on? I'd give a minimum of 50mg/day, ideally 100mg/day. Anything up to a maximum of 200mg/day should be fine without side effects, doses over that should only be done under the guidance of a Dr or naturopath.
Regarding Vitex, you take it all cycle, including during AF, because as I mentioned above, it takes 3-6 months to become fully effective, so if you start and stop it during your cycle, you're negating the effects. Though you will read several theories on the net about taking it from AF to OV, and then stopping, which to me seems pointless. I started it on advice from a naturopath who told me to take it all cycle.

Thanks for all your advice ladies, from what i read most people who had sucess with B6 lengthening their LP started straight away ie. first month using it. Im really thinking i might try Vitex but all the conflicting info is making me question if i should. This ttc business is so damn confusing! :-)

I guess there seems to be such a wide spectrum of when people think it should be taken ie. before/during/after ovulation and so on. My cycle is also quite short 24 days this last one and im worried it might shorten it even more. I have also read of people who have had their cycles messed up since being on vitex. Im thinking i will give it a go but a bit nervous too just incase it did shorten my cycle.

how much b6 are you taking?
i read that if 50mg doesn't work to make it 100mg, and if that doesn't work to try 150mg... depends what your body needs.

Vitex will stuff up some womens cycles if it's not the right thing for them to take. It's not a magic cure all, and even though it helped lengthen my LP, it didn't help me conceive, even after over a year on it constantly. It helped get rid of my PMS symptoms, and certainly improved my EWCM.
Maybe look at going to see a naturopath or homeopath who can look at YOUR situation and recommend things based on that.
Herbs don't work quickly, they take time to become effective, so allow at the least one month before deciding if something is or isn't working.
