We are currently on the move back to the North Island - just wondering if any one has any recommendations (or disaster) stories on moving companies. Thanks

My family use to move around a lot when we were younger and we always used Crown movers and never had any problems with them. Salvation Army used to (may still do but I'm not in those circles currently) and never had any concerns.
Hope the move goes well.

We used Crown recently and would go there again. Nothing major, but lots of little communication problems and a few broken peices (nothing worth claiming insurance on, but a PITA nonetheless). If you want more info on the problems feel free to pm me.

A lady I used to work with moved a lot and always used vanlines, she only has good things to say about them.

we're moving next week, and from word of mouth etc we've been told van lines are one of the better companies. we rang around about half a dozen and they were the best price too.

We used Crown - possibly my only complaint as such was that we paid for an unpack at the other end and they didn't really. We pretty much unpacked ourselves. They did the major stuff, but it was a $6K+ bill to go from Auckland to Wellington. We didn't feel it justified a complaint though as the rest of their service was excellent.

Gee Ginger, that seems pricy considering we have just moved Aussie-NZ with full container and a car for only about $12,000.
We went with Allied Pickfords when we moved over to Aussie, they were really good, we used them again when we moved across the country and they were good again. Then we tried to get a quote for moving back to NZ and never heard from them despite many emails so they were put in the 'useless' pile!
We have been dealing with NZ Van Lines since our stuff arrived in NZ and they have been so helpful and easy to deal with, but I can't comment on cost as we didn't actually move with them, they are just our NZ agent.

The crown price was about $6k for us (Palmerton North to Neson, 6 weeks ago) and like Ginger said, that was supposed to include unpacking too, but didn't. All the did was set our bed up.

Shop around for insurance too. Crown quoted us about $1200, but after ringing our insurance company discovered we were covered in transit.

Thanks we are getting a quote from Vanlines we liked the lady who came around yesterday - just wasn't sure how good they were. Allied was who we used when we came down - but we can't get them by email either so that doesn't inspire me to use them.
