Topic: Engagement present for my fiance? Posted: 13 April 2011 at 3:15pm |
Hi ladies, here's a tricky one. My fiance and I recently got engaged (October 2010) and just managed to find our engagement ring (it is being made).
I have asked him if I could pay for half the ring (I'm a modern kind of girl - why should he fork out the $) but he has declined. I really want to get him something as a symbol of our engagement. Trouble is, he is the type of guy who has everything he needs and wants (and if not, he goes out to get it himself), and he doesn't wear jewellery (so a watch, dress ring, chain, etc are all out). He doesn't wear dress shirts unless to formal occasions, so cufflinks are out.
Any ideas?

Oh dear Tishy, I didn't let DH have another ring after his went over the side of a boat
How about a fancy bottle of wine that you can share for your 10th (or whatever) wedding anniversary? You can put a sticker on it with a lovely message. OH!! Or maybe include a sealed envelope about how you feel now or what you look forward to most about being with him forever and he can open it when he opens the wine.
ETA or a bottle of Jack's or whatever he's into if wine's a bit girly It could be one of those ones in a box and you could hide the letter behind it...

Hi girls, thanks heaps for the ideas.
MT the photo shoot would be great but he hates photos, though that did give me the idea to get this awesome photo of me and him blown up and put onto canvas!
Tishy, he has been talking about a PS3 since before they came out, so maybe one of those!
Chickoin - that is an AWESOME idea. I"m thinking a nice (maybe expensive) bottle of red wine!! He's mostly a beer drinker but I know he drinks gin when he's had a few! Though I"m thinking I could get a nice bottle of champers for celebration this week/next week when we pick up our ring and a nice bottle of red for putting away. And maybe a bottle opener that's engraved maybe?

My DH got me an engagement present (though I already had the ring, spoiled!) it was his favourite photo of the two of us that was actually quite old and I hadn't seen it in a long time. He got it sized and put into a silver frame and had it engraved on the top left and bottom right corners with a special message. I love it, it sits on my dresser and I love that I will always have it
Love the bubbles idea, mmm bubbles...

I also wanted to get DH a watch, what he got was water skis, lol, he was a happy man.
When our first baby came along, I got him a native tree that we planted. What about something like that?

I made DH a scrapbook type thing with 'our story' (how we met, our engagement story, etc.) filled with photos and other momentos. At the end was a page with 'The End' crossed out and 'The Beginning' written over it. He really loved it. Took a while to make tho!

Get him a photo of his new IL's I'm sure h'll love that. Blopw it up and stick on the wall in the bedroom and he can look at it every morning.
Failing that. Get him a PS3 and get him to give my dh his nintendo.

Surprise luxury romantic weekend away? I know it isn't something he can 'keep' but guys aren't so hung up about that sort of thing. Maybe you could get some nice photo's whilst you're away too.
*snortle* BessieBear my god can you imagine how far he'd run if she did that!

Thanks thesaff, I'm leaning towards that a bit later in the year. We are going away to see my family for Easter, so it would be awhile
(and ignore Bessie, she is being cheeky, my DF and her DH have the same inlaws...)
Today I got a bottle opener (for beer bottles) and I'm going to get our engagement date engraved on it, plus I'm hunting for a nice bottle of pinot noir to put away for our anniversary. But I'm leaning towards a PS3 as well, but no, Bessie, I'm keeping the Wii...come and visit and you can play on it!

Cool pocket knife? You can get awesome ones from hunting stores. Could probably get it engraved as well.
Recently got my brother a cool builders spirit level and engraved that for his 21st. He won't need it right now but should be one of those tools that will be around forever and will use it one day.
