Topic: 2.5yr age gap? Posted: 11 March 2011 at 5:56pm |
There will be 2yo 4mths between DS and this baby and I am debating whether is it worth getting a double buggy. We currently have a mountain buggy so was thinking I will just get my very handy DH to make a toddler board.
Did you use a double buggy with this age gap? If so which one?

My 2.5yo doesn't like being in the buggy any more. I would think that the board would be a great idea. I use a moose noose attached to my buggy when I am looking after little ones with my toddler. It is a pain he wont sit in the buggy much anymore but so not worth the arguements.

I will have a 2 year gap. Ill be buying a double MB mainly for walking etc. Although my DD does prefer to walk she runs off and is only little so gets tired fast.
Im buying one off TM so even if dd decides she doesnt want a bar of it ill hopefully get close to what i paid back for it

I think it depends on the child. My DS at almost 3 is still happy to sit side by side with his bro, but my friends daughter refuses outright to get in the buggy. I have to encourage him to walk or use the board if we are taking the single buggy.
I got a cheap double mountain buggy for $30 off trademe and have used it so often for walking long distances. But i also use the single MB heaps, the skateboard, the backpack (now baby is too big for the front pack). Sometimes toddler walks or sits on the footrest of the single MB. Sometimes i think about all the forms of transport and go what the heck, but actually we use them all. We have a huge garage and so the double just lives in there - have never even tried to get it in the car, just take the single and toddler walks or sits on the front.

I agree with crafty1, it probably depends on the child. There is 2y3m between the boys and we got a Dbl MB (as well as our sgl) and I love it. Jack will still sit in there (at 3y11m) and it was really handy when Ben was young I needed to get out of the house for fresh air or to put the boys to sleep.

We have a 2.5 age gap and have the double buggy. I had a sneaky feeling that although DD wasn't really interested in the buggy before DS was born that she would be afterwards. Glad i went with that gut feeling! We have a P&T inline and I love it. Most of the time DS sits in the top and DD below so she can get in and out as she pleases. She still loves sitting in it at nearly 4
We did look at a toddler board but at only 2 and a half DD was too little for it and after seeing a little boy fall off one in the mall I was put off for life!

LOL Mama2two - I had the same sneaky feeling and I was right DD won't let bub anywhere near the pram... so we are buying the second seat for the P&Ts... DD is 3 and still sits in the pram a lot! I reckon it's worth getting an inline double pram and then you can always sell the seconf seat when DS doesn't need the pram anymore...

we have 2 yr 9m gap so a little bigger but didn't bother with a double buggy. I have a toddler board I have used a couple of times but Tom really enjoys being in the manduca so in the early days I used to wear him and put Ella in the buggy. Now days Ella is happy walking every where and Tom still loves going in the manduca so I rarely use the buggy- very glad I didn't bother with a double.

My 3.5 year old still sits in our double buggy sometimes. Is easier for me if we need to walk quite far as well as 3.5 year olds are still not that fast at walking. So I would say yes, get one if you can.

We have exact same gap and got a double buggy, DS loves sitting in the 'chair' so no way was he going to cope if he had to walk, plus as someone said they don't walk fast can get tired without giving you notice so its just handy, I figured if I get 12 months use out of it thats pretty good then i'll sell it

We have a 2y, 5m gap. We had about 2 1/2 months where a buggy board or double buggy would have been helpful. If we're going into shops, I might now have DS1 in the buggy and DS2 in the Moby, or when we walk home from DC (10min adult pace, 30min child pace!), DS1 walks and DS2 is in the buggy. It's now cooler so I'm more comfy babywearing.

We have a 2 1/2 year gap, but DD1 has long refused to go in the buggy (since maybe around 18 months) so there was no point at all in us upgrading. I think the toddler board would be a great idea. We bought a bike with an adult push-handle, and when we go for walks (for the sake of getting out, rather than needing to go somewhere), DD1 rides on that, and I wear DD2 in the moby and everyone's happy . Otherwise, DD1 is happy to walk alongside the buggy (actually snap-n-go & capsule atm!)

I have exactly 2 year gap, we used the phil n teds double seat at the start but as they both got bigger I used a double stroller for a while, which was great as they liked to sit next to each other. Jake has only just started being OK with walking more than a few minutes! But I agree that it depends on the child, Jake loved the buggy and I had no problems keeping him in one. He would still choose to sit in one if he could. My neice on the other hand didn't want to go in hers by 2.5. She isn't as heavy as Jake who's 19.7kgs tho!!! (So I'm not carrying him if he won't walk!)

We have a 2 year age gap and I went with a kiddie board (DD is quite tall). We couldn't really afford to change from a MB to Phil&Teds and I didn't want to try and maneuver a dbl MB through the shops, plus we have no room to store a double. DD loves being on the board most of the time and it was very useful when we had the carrycot in the MB.
The board is really only useful for short walks or at the mall, and our one has an awful turning circle, but it has worked fine for what we need. I sometimes wish we had something I could take them further in, but I'll reassess as DS gets older.
Definitely go with what you think will work for your child, and what you plan to do with the kids.

I have 2 years 2 months between mine and wouldnt attempt shopping with out the double buggy - its a bit of a pain - even some baby shops dont have enough space for it - but my big girl is an independant little monkey and she takes off when she gets bored
Sometimes I will put the little one in my unido and the big one in the single buggy - but not often

I have just bought a double kit for P&T buggy, for similiar age gap - no idea if it will work, but I like the way it gives you options. My toddler loves her buggy and tires easily still. Might also use ergo carrier and single buggy.

MrsB, depends on what you will use it for. I walk everywhere and also go for long fitness walk and could not be without my double buggy! I know my age gap is a wee bit smaller than what you'll have but I think I'll be using it for at least another year.
I have a baby jogger city mini which has been great for walks but also does very well in malls, supermarkets, cafes etc. Also very light - 11 kgs.

My 2.5 year old still goes in the pram when we are out shopping etc as he is a PITA when walking and he loathes the wrist strap, so he sits in the toddler seat and his little sister sits in the main part. The toddler seat is a life saver some days!!
ETA - I only have a 14 month age gap between my two though.
