Topic: On the move to Tauranga Posted: 07 March 2011 at 3:37pm |
Hello lovely ladies.
We are moving to sunny Tauranga. Hubby has spent a bit of time there however I have spent about 3 days in total. If you are from that area or no lots about it any information would be great. Anyone got any idea's on suburbs to live etc.
Some where nice and safe as hubby travels a bit for work. We have used home based care so if anyone knows of a good group to go with.

Hey....we are in Tauranga too and live in Pyes Pa, depending where your hubby travels it's quite central to getting onto the Kaimai's to go to Hamilton/Auckland or the back way to Rotorua which is only 40mins. My DF works in Rotorua and travels there everyday - only takes him 40mins an hour depending on traffic. But like Limo said the mt is nice, just about everyone i know lives at the mt so we spend a lot of time in the car going to see people!!
Sorry can't help with any home based care.
Good luck!! I can try and help with any questions you may have, have lived here all my life!

I can highly recommend Bay Family Homebased Care (BFHC) very friendly and great to deal with and although it wasn't a factor for us they turned out to be the most cost effective. They don't charge for the Christmas period, and the fees include a weekly play group and a mainly music session.
We live in Bureta and love being close to the water and town. However if DH worked away alot I would probably live in Bethlehem.

I live in Te Puke which is 20 mins from Tauranga and we love it. It would depend where your husband is travelling to the most as to the best area, Papamoa is lovely, and the Mt seems to be a great place to live especially if you love the beach. But all of tauranga except possibly Merivale is really safe and nice. I've heard good things about BFHC also.

Hi margs we also live in Pyes Pa & love it! We moved to Tauranga about 2 years ago & it's a great place to live. We love how central it is to lots of places, Hamilton, rotorua, Auckland, taupo etc. The mount is great & we go there often. Sorry no advice re childcare as we're still TTC! Good luck

There are parts of Gate Pa that i would DEFINITELY avoid. And yes same with Merivale and Welcome bay too. Some of the Ave's are a bit rough too.

I live in Brookfield and its nice and central to town and shops etc. I lived in Matua until recently and it was lovely. We lived really close to the park and the water and it was so nice. It depends on whats important to you - distance to nice parks/shops/schools etc. Some suburbs are more pricey than others too - Bethlehem for example is vr nice but extremely pricey. I would definately avoid Merivale, Park vale, Gate Pa, parts of Greerton and parts of Welcome Bay, plus the late avenues (from about 15th approx to 23rd).

I live in the Mount, have for 30 years! So can vouch that it's a pretty awesome place . And agree with the places others have mentioned about where to avoid.

Thanks so much for all your input.
I'm really excited about shifting and being so close to lots of places.
So pleased to have some feedback on suburbs and will be looking at Matua and Bethlehem.
I will look into BFHC, thats the hard part about shifting as the lady i have looking after my DS is fantastic.

Only 3 weeks to go before the big move.
We have found a house in Pyes Pa.
Anyone ktnow of a good family doctor / medical centre.
My DS had a accident last week and as a resul has his hand in plaster a greenstick fracture and I'm doubt full that he will be mended by the time we move so i will need somewhere to take his file.

Awesome Margs, we live in Pyes Pa and love it!!!
As for Doctors, we go to CentralMed on Devonport Road and 14th Ave. Its not the closest to Pyes Pa though, so you may want one closer.

Thats awesome news about the move! We are in Pyes Pa too!
For Doctors, we go to Chadwick healthcare - they are on Chadwick Rd in Greerton which is like a 5 min drive from Pyes Pa.

Thanks Ladies I'll check them out.
We have an aunt and uncle out in Pyes Pa too. Our house is almost brand new and has a little park at in the same street.
Its been freezing down here the last few days so I'm looking forward to some warmer weather.
