That is a lot of milk for a 10mth old. I think DS was only having 3 feeds a day at that age. Does he eat much in the way of solids? JMO but I would cut out one of the daytime bottles and just offer him water in between.

We have 3BFs a day one at about 10am, one at about 2pm and one at 7ish (before each nap), water, Lily has a nuby straw sippy cup that she's had since 7 months, she never got the hang of the normal non straw sippy cups and she drinks anywhere from half - all of it over the course of the day. But if it's really hot she can drink 2 bottles worth which is about 150-200mls I'd say. Or however much the bigger baby bottles hold. (They're 9mo+ sippy cups)

I don't know if it's a lot of milk, baby should guide you but she did cut down from 5 BFs a day (as well as dropping a nap) so she'd have a BF when she woke up, then one before her 1st, 2nd and 3rd nap then one before bed but Plunket told us to give snacks in between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner and she cut out the 1st feed dropped a nap and the feed that went with it too.

DS has 3 bottles per day (sometimes less at the moment as he's teething and refusing his bottle a lot) but drinks approx 3-5 full cups of water from his sippy cup. He LOVES water, I was concerned at one point that he was drinking too much!
I'd say after these two next teeth come through is feeds will drop back again to two plus solids and still the water.

snacks dont really work for him.. :) i do try sometimes though just he feeds before sleeps so thats three bottles and one at night before bed and then a couple in the night too lol... people keep saying he needs water but until now the bottles were more regular.. but 4 hours he might get thirsty so just wondered if everyone else does water too?

I have a sippy bottle thing that I just refill during the day and leave about for DS to drink out of.
DS is still having loads of BF during the day and to be honest couldn't care less if it is loads or not haha. He likes and still grows and also keeps him hydrated...so does it really matter?

I would just offer with food and on hot days like today then I would offer him water frequently if he's thirsty he'll soon realise it's nice and drink it but otherwise he is probably fine as he will still be getting a lot from the formula and they get it from their food as well.
If he's not keen on the sippy cup it might be the non spill bit making it too hard so you could take that bit out and let if free flow till he gets the idea, is only water so you don't need to worry about him spilling it too much.

We tried quite a few before we found one that DS would drink much water from and even then he really only drinks half of it (so maybe 100mls) - that is until a couple of weeks ago when I left it at someone's house and tried a straw one again and he drank about 300mls straight away! So maybe try a couple of different ones?
He also seems to prefer my water bottle, so you could just offer that too, especially on hot days?

ElfsMum, I haven't been offering Oliver any water but he still isn't eating much solids with his allergies. He has 5 or 6 bottles a day as well.

This doesnt help with 10 months but, when we were at the hospital last month with Jackson, the Dr there said he should be having approx 250mls per day based on his age and weight (was 14 months at the time) of any fluids.
I just fill up Jacksons cup and leave it out for him to sip on as he likes. Jackson loves to drink water from my bottle so I bought the same one, only smaller, and he loves it.

The baby I look after twice a week has just turned 11months, but has been having 3x bottles a day (230ml) since 8months. She has water with her solids out of a bottle, although they've just started giving her a sippy cup in the last couple of weeks. I've never had to top up her water during the day so she doesn't have a whole bottle of it, and isn't interested when I offer her some at other times when she's not eating.
So to answer your question, I have no idea how much they're supposed to be having (can't remember back to this time last year when DD was 10months lol) but I'm sure he will drink if he's thirsty (maybe?)

Just let him have it as he wants it. Maybe teach him a "sign" so that you know when he wants water opposed to his formula?

All in there own time heh KA I do find these wee beings so amazing... at the end of the day no matter how much we try and get them to do something, unless they are ready they just wont do it LOL
Jake wasnt a big water drinker either, he was probably around the same age as Liam... he now has about 200ml of water and 300 ml of milk a day (didnt like cows milk until a few weeks ago either).

All babies have their own different needs! Not much you can do if they are not interested, just a case of try again later.
