Where baby sleeps

This might seem like a silly question but as a Mum to be it's been on my mind.

I have a baby on the way and we live in a 2 storey house where the bedrooms are downstairs, but the living area is upstairs. I will be spending most of the day upstairs only coming downstairs to do washing etc.

Baby will be sleeping in our room at night in his bassinet next to our bed for 6 months, then he's got his own room to move to downstairs. I also have his changing stuff, clothes etc set up in his room.

So my question is, if I have the bassinet upstairs all day and he has his sleeps in there, and then bring the bassinet downstairs to our room when we go to bed, is that going to work or is it going to be too unsettling? I don't want to leave him by himself downstairs with a monitor or anything.

As I said sorry if silly question but Im just hoping this is going to work? Cos I don't see how else to do it with the layout of my house. In time I want to get a bedtime routine going ie with a bath, massage, story etc if I do this then put him to bed upstairs will it still work? I can have him in the dark upstairs if I need to until we go to bed, as he could be around the corner in the dining room where I could still see him if I was in the lounge.

Once he's in his own room it'll be a bit easier cos I have a baby monitor etc but I don't want to use that with him downstairs till later on.

I thought about having a second bassinet but then I wondered if that would affect how he settled, being in a different bed at night to during the day? Or do they not notice? hehe cos my Mum has a Moses basket she bought to have at her place and offered for me to have it here for upstairs so I could do that.

I had DD's sleeping in bassinets in the lounge during the day and in our room at night until they were 9 wks. (the bassinets had wheels so were easy to move).

When I moved them into their own room at night I put the bassinets inside the cots for a few weeks so they got used to the view and they transitioned to the cots with no probs.

But I still have them sleeping in hammocks in the lounge for day sleeps (they are 4 months) cos they won't sleep in their cots during the day (which has me beat cos they sleep through the night in their cots just fine.)

We have a 2 story house but our bedrooms are upstairs and living is down. Jackson we straight into a cot in his own room from the day he came home from hospital.

We bought a hammock for day time sleeping downstairs and during the day he would sometimes sleep in there. Otherwise he was sleeping in his cot upstairs. We had a monitor so that helped, as well as regular checks. I didnt mind going up and down the stairs cos his change table and nappies etc were all upstairs anyways, so even when he did sleep in the hammock I had to go upstairs to change him.

When they're that little they sleep anywhere lol so you could even buy a sling and he'll settle in that. We don't have a 2 storey house but we used a bassinette and a pram indoors lol (it had a bassinette attachment) and I'd wheel her around the different rooms if she fell asleep in that hehe

I think I'll be more relaxed this time about leaving bubs in our room in her bassinette...or I'll just wear her. You'll figure out the best way as you go. It's not a silly question and it's always good to hear what others do in similar situations!

Our house is same layout but we had the old school bassinets that had like a moses basket so I'd just bring the moses basket where ever I went, although we did have a monitor so sometimes she would have her day sleeps in her bassinet in our room downstairs while I was upstairs.

Our house is the opposite, living downstairs, bedrooms upstairs. So DS sleeps in our room in his bassinet at night, and downstairs in the day. I've got a portacot set up down here, but he doesn't really like sleeping in it, so he spends his naps in his swing in the living room.

I tried carrying the bassinet up and down every day for a week or two, but it was just a pain! Now I pop him in his swing and he goes right to sleep!

Thats what weve done Lisa, I have all DDs clothes upstairs (since we bath her upstairs) and nappies upstairs, although we have the change table down stairs. Only used it in the middle of the night when we changed her nappy (dont chage it in the night anymore, havnt used it for a couple of months!)

The bathroom is downstairs annoyingly lol do have a toilet upstairs but I don't think the change table would fit in there. I thought maybe I'd use it during the night but I guess we'll see how we go. Im not too worried if I don't use it so much as Im not that happy with it, doesn't seem so stable I should have got one of those nice wooden ones.

Hmm thats interesting about the clothes, maybe I could get some of those plastic drawers or something to put newborn clothes in upstairs for the meantime.

As you can tell I love systems and organisation LOL hence trying to figure that out now
