Topic: TTC & still not UTD after 30 months Posted: 26 October 2010 at 12:20pm |
Hi, DH (27) and I (29) have currently been trying for nearly 3 years now and have been given the "unexplained infertility" label by FA. Awaiting public funded IVF in March 2011.
Just wondering how many of you out there that were TTC after 2 1/2 years. Would really love to hear some miracle stories cause at the moment I am feeling pretty down at the fact that I wont be able to conceive naturally before we get IVF. I know miracles can happen but what are the chances of conceiving naturally after not being able to get UTD after so long...............
This journey has just been so hard and Im sure Im not the only one who has had the pain, heartache & dissapointment for over 2 1/2 years

Hi Tiffany
I am so sorry this is so hard for you. I know the pain it causes and it really is heart-wrenching.
We were trying for 5 years (although the first two were not really trying/not preventing - so probably more like 3 years TTC).
Clomid and other drugs didn't worrk for us but the month we started IVF we got UTD before egg collection with the help of the buserlin.
I used to not be a believer of the "miracle" stories about the girls who got pregnant the month before they started IVF, adoption etc......then i became one!
Our beautiful son is now 15months old and we are in the same rollercoaster for #2 - but it's not nearly so hard. It is a funny thing but the amount of time you had to try to get your baby really does seem insignificant once you have them in your arms :)
I quote this statistic all the time but something like 98% of people will become parents with medical help - IVF is fantastic technology and getting better all the time. You may need a little bit of help but it's totally worth it!
The most important thing is to never give up.

Hi mountaingirl, wow you got UTD just before egg collection! that is amazing. good to know these "miracle" stories do happen. I am really hoping thats the case with us (clomid & IUI didnt work for us either). I really hope that we get UTD before we need IVF, but IVF being last resort I am really hoping it works!
All the best for TTC #2, I really hope your journey isnt as long this time!
The longer we TTC, the more we want a baby and the more we will appreciate one when it finally happens! x

Hi - we have been trying for that amount of time. We live in aussie - my DF has low male fertility so we need IVF and ISCI which is why it hasnt worked for us and know for us we cant get pregannt on our own so no miracle will happen. Luckily Medicare rebate 80% of the costs so we have been able to start this cycle and only had to wait 6 weeks from seeing specialist for first time to commencing drugs - I start this Friday.
At least march 2011 isnt that far away - I know of people on wating lists back home for 2013!!
Good luck with it all.

thanks trouble06, we were originally told we wouldnt get IVF till Sept 2011, but now it has been brought forward to March 2011, we are so stoked about that!! Its not far away at all.
Im sorry that IVF is your only chance to conceive but it will all be worth it when you finally get that BFP! Sounds like Aussie is alot better than NZ where 80% of the costs are paid for, thats awesome!
I have been following your progress on the IVF chat thread so I will keep watching your progress over the next few months. All the best for your upcoming IVF cycle x

So sorry to read your heartache Tiff8ny, sounds like you are having a rough time of it right now, so sending you lots of hugs.
Hope it gets better for you soon and you get that surprise BFP before you start your IVF!
After almost 7 years TTC and 2 x M/C I can sooooo relate! Bring on those BFP's soon, huh!
Have you noticed any difference in your cycle since you had your tubes flushed etc? It was the oil flush you did, is that right?

Hi ScaredyCat, thanks for your post. 7 years! I shouldnt really complain after only TTC 3 years but it is such a rough journey isnt it, just doesnt seem fair at time!
Yes I had the Lipiodol flush done last month, havent noticed too much difference as of yet. My AF did last longer last cycle (it normally only lasts 3 days max but last cycle lasted 4-5 days) but dont know if that had anything to do with it. This will be my 2nd cycle after the flush, the specialist said the 2nd cycle is the most sucessful after the flush so we will see. Im 8DPO now, so will most likely get AF by Sun if she decides to show!
Did you notice any difference after your tubes have been flushed?

Hi,
A very good friend of mine was trying for 2 years and the morning before her egg collection for IVF also found out she was UTD. She had been on clomid with no success. She also had PCOS and was over 35 and he had low fertility so they were not expecting it. It does happen

Hi Tiff8ny, yep it sure is rough, no matter if your been TTCing for six months or 10 years, the heartaches still the same.
The only real difference I'v noticed is I had AF from hell last week, first once since August due to all the IVF drugs I had been taking, and man it wasn't at all pleasant!
Its our second cycle too, I'm on day 7 so a little bit behind you. Fingers crossed the witch stays away!

We're trying naturally for this month, and if no luck this month, next month I will be doing my last embie transfer.
Such a scary thought as if it doesn't work I'm looking at about a 12 month waiting list before we get another funded round, and age is not on my side!
Although as we have that awful "unexplained infertility" they have said we could have a couple of goes at IUI while we wait as I do seem to be able to conceive with a bit of help but the trick is getting them to stick!
It so frustrating, having fertility issues and then stickability issues as well does my head in, will we ever get a break! I just want to be normal and be able to have a family just like everyone else, sometimes it makes me wonder what the hell we did to deserve all this, it seems so unfair sometimes.
I've been following the other forum too IVF Chat, and I see your IVF starts early next year, thats not long now, but here's hoping you don't need it!

Hopefully you wont need the emby till next time you wanna get pregnant. hopefully the flush did the trick for you hun. The waiting lists totally SUCK! I hate our "unexplained" label as well, just doesnt seem fair esp for unexplained, why dont we have rights like people with issues to go on the waiting lists sooner.......
I am lucky that we have age on our side but sadly not everyone does.
IUI's could be a go for you while your waiting, you never know it could just work. Sadly we tried 3 IUI's with no sucess.
Thats good that you can actually conceive but devastating if they end up in M/C. I cant even bear to imagine what that is like to deal with. After trying for so long to finally get UTD then having a M/C must just be so heartbreaking. I really feel for you hun.
I ALWAYS wonder what the hell we did to deserve all this too cause it does just seem so unfair. and then I start to think well maybe we are just not meant to be parents, but I actually cant see my life without having kids so I tend not to think that fair ahead cause it actually upsets me quite alot.
Yes our public funded IVF starts in March 2011, I am so excited but nervous and anxious at the same time cause I dont know what to expect. Thank godness for these forums for advice & words of wisdom!!
All the best to you hun, I really hope you get your BFP really soon, you sure deserve one x

Thanks Tiff8ny, same to you!
Sorry for the vent post, sometimes it really gets to me, other times I just go with the flow, obviously right now its bugging the hell out of me!
I know deep down we didn't do anything wrong to deserve this crap just feels like it at times. One day it wil be all worth it, I'm sure, have to hold on to that thought!
Don't be too worried about the whole IVF thing, its really not as bad as you think. I was so anxious and nervous when we started, I think the not knowing is far worse than anything you actually have to do.
Hopefully when you get your appointment next month (if you need it of course, hopefully you don't!!) and you get to go over everything with a nurse it will put your mind at ease. I'm a real wus and scaredy cat (hence the name) when it comes to these sorts of things and would do it all again in a heart beat if have to, so really its not that bad.
Sending lots of baby dust your way for the next couple of days!

You didn't do anything to deserve it, life just sucks sometimes...stupid life.
Unexplained infertility is arse huh, and I don't get why it doesn't allow for the same amount of help as the people who have something wrong with them...it seems really weird...
Good luck to both of you, I would love to see you get your miracle babies BEFORE needing ivf, that would be wonderful.

Hi ScaredyCat, yes AF found me as expected I am actually really gutted this time as it was the 2nd cycle after my lipiodol flush and was supposed to be the highest chance of it working, seems like it hasnt I have just about given up TTC now as I am that over it all. I just want my IVF month to be here now so I can get on with it. I dont know what I will do if IVF doesnt work, dont even wanna think about that right now!
I hope you manage to get some BDing in even if DP is sick Good luck to you hun x

I'm so sorry Tiff8ny, I completely understand where your coming from, sometimes you just need a break from it all, the heartache and the disappointment each month is just so hard to handle - big big 's from me.
I thought I was about to ov and today tested again and line has gone light again, so who knows, DP is so not up to BD'ing so I'm hoping Ov is still a couple of days away, men and their bugs, you would think he was dying!

the man flu is a terrible thing isnt it hahaha
we had a break a few months ago while the naturopath had us on a detox, its the 2nd month TTC again but after 3 years it just feels like naturally isnt going to work. I am so scared and anxious of IVF but I really want to start it now so I can at last have a good chance of getting UTD.
I hate using those OPKs, I never get a decent +ve, I only ever just get a faint +ve.
My fingers are tightly crossed that you havent ovulated yet and DP wants some action soon!! xx
