Topic: Give me a plan... Posted: 13 October 2010 at 9:47am |
I'm tired!!
My 3 mth old DD who's slept through since 6 weeks isn't any more . She had a cold a fortnight ago, and is now waking frequently. She goes down absolutely no trouble at 6pm each night, and rather than doing her 10-12 hour stint, is now waking about 3 hourly. I've read all the sleep store stuff etc...but am just tired! So, thought I'd post here to get a few "when my DD/S did that I did this......." responses....and I'll pick an approach to go with!
Would really appreciate some responses ladies! x

Not sure if you'd be into it or are already doing it, but you could always pop DD into bed with you at night and therefore (if your breastfeeding) you can just feed in bed and don't actually have to wake up so much, I did that with DS and it was so good, we both slept so much better so yea worked for me but I understand that it's not for everyone

it could just be a temporary thing and will go back to how it was on its own... Or you could try a dream feed at say 10pm and see if that helps.

After my DS has been sick, it can take him a few days/sometimes weeks, to get back into his normal sleeping pattern. Perhaps this is the same for your DD?
My Son was a great sleeper from about 8wks-20wks. From 20wks he started waking a few times during the night but I think it was his teeth moving as soon after his first tooth popped up.
I agree with Bizzy, try a dream feed as this also worked for us.

Sally my DS did the same thing, slept through from 8 weeks and bang on 4 months to the day - started waking a few times a night, but it was just a phase (perhaps a developmental stage) and about a fortnight later he was back to sleeping through.
Now he's waking again but it's his teeth giving him grief and I just have to go with it.
ETA - He had gastro a little while ago which had him waking very frequently at night and it took a good few weeks for him to get back to sleeping through too.

It's really normal at this age for a baby to wake 3hrly, I would second the co-sleeping suggestion from first wake - when DD2 was little and not so much of an active sleeper we did this (from first or second wake if we had already gone to bed).

Also, do you have other children? In any case, take it easy on yourself during the day - I find writing myself lists of things that need doing helps (otherwise I tend to forget), but also knowing that as long as the bare minimum is done the rest can definitely wait.

Its still pretty normal for a 3 month old to wake at night, she could be going throughba growth spurt or need some comfort etc
My DD has always been a night waker and still is at nearly 14 months.
Maybe just try and figure out if she is waking hungry, or cold or maybe she just needs a cuddle and put back to bed.
I only used co sleeping at a last resort as I dont really like it. We did a it a few times when i was really desperate and I always put her back to her own bed when she was asleep.

Thanks for your replies ladies. It's actually just so nice to have the moral support!! OB is a good place for that :-) I'm going to keep perservering with the dreamfeed for a few nights (did it last night) and then if she wakes only a couple of hours after that, DH is going to re-settle her and put her down again. The other thing that I'm going to do is make a *mental shift* - rather than expect her to sleep through, I'm going to rewind back to early days when I expected to get up...that way, when she wakes before say, 4am, I won't feel that pang of disappointment that I've felt each night in the last couple of weeks. ....what do they say...this too shall pass...She's a settled happy button, and we'll get there with this sleep thing!! THANK YOU ALL
