Topic: TMI - Period/AF Discussion Posted: 02 July 2010 at 11:47am |
Ohk... so ive had my period since i was 13 (21 now) and i have only ever had one crampy period. (sorry to those of you who do get crampy... im not trying to brag or anything!) but since having Riley... my 2 periods ive had (BF for the 1st 6 weeks, got one about 8 weeks, and am only just getting my 2nd one now... havent BD yet.. poor DP lol but aaaanyway!) they have been REALLY SORE!!! like clutch myself sore. and the one crampy period i did have was more uncomforatble, not cramps per se iygwim? also be4 being preggers i rarely (like once in 3-4 periods) had the "clotty-chunky bits" (im sorry this is way TMI!) but since R every time i go to the toilet there is the clotty looking bits - not big, just lots of little ones.
and my question is... did anyone elses periods change dramatically since having a baby? (for better or worse) or should i be worried... im not right now... just sore
TIA!

Mine didn't change but I know peoples who have. Some people have gone from easy to awful, like you, while others have gone from awful to easy. Seems to be something to do with the change in the uterus (I think thats the body part) lining and hows it 'sheds' when releasing the egg plus hormones.
Not much help am I?! Sorry chick but I hope it gets better!!

Mine always start back super heavy & once my body gets back to normal then they lighten back up. Hopefully it's ease up for you?
What you might find is that with the first few your uterus might be still having a clean out? No idea really but sounds logical. I think my first few were more clotty.

I think we've swapped periods MyLilSquishy!! I used to have terrible crampy awful ones and the two I've had so far have been painfree Sorry that probably is a little braggy but it's sooooo nice after yucky ones.
But I do hear the first few are generally a bit mixed up as my first was 8 days and the second only 1 day, whereas usually they're about 3 days. So no doubt my painfreeness won't last. Fingers crossed for you that they sort themselves out quickly.

My periods were always heavy and clotty and sore :( but since having the kids omg, some months they are horrible! Really heavy and achy down there, and I also get nasty OV pains, cramping and stabby pains.
They should settle back down after a few more cycles, but if your worried just ask yor Dr :) It sounds pretty normal to me though.

After DS the first one was the crampyist ever! The second, not so bad. Then I think pretty much back to normal from there.

MIne changed. Before being preg they were 6-7 days long, ouchy and heavy for 2-3 days, then medium then light and clumpy.
I got my first af back 6wks after having DS and the first few were a bit random, but then they settled down to 5 days long, heavy for first 24hrs then slowed down. And only ever had very mild cramps if at all.

I've always had bad AF pains, really bad.. and heavy and since having DS they've gotten worse and the pain has changed areas - all in my lower back and really achy just like my contractions were.
I'm hoping it might go back to the old pain - it was bad but not this bad!!
I hope yours settles down to!

When I was on the minipill pre-pregnancy, I had super light AF.
When ttc they were lightish and super crampy.
Post pregnancy (after 10 months when they came back)... OMG insanely heavy, as in super tampons + super pad for the first few days, no cramps though
They are starting to get lighter now and it only hurts 'down there' but no cramps still.
So there is hope that things will slowly improve

Pre-preg I was 2-3 day AF with minimal cramping/clots, but ever since I had Jae, its been like 2 AFs in one go, lots more bleeding, stronger cramps and really clotty... longer cycles too! Not quite as regular as I used to be (I went from 23-25 days like clockwork, to 25-31 days but never the same from one month to the next). Got my AF back Oct 09 (4 days after I stopped expressing) and obviously wont be having any more for some time
It was just starting to come back to what used to be normal when I got preg again, so maybe 6 months? Going from 1st PPAF to when it calmed down again that is.

My first one after bubs was born was awful. It was so heavy had to go to after hours as I was losing so much blood. It was quite similar blood loss to that of childbirth!! I couldn't even go to work!! My 2nd one is a wee bit lighter but still extremely heavy. I totally freaked as mine are usually ver ylight and only last a couple of days.

I'm still having trouble with mine regulating themselves back to 28-29 days. They used to be so regular. Now it's like 21 days one month, 24 the next, 22, 28, 24 etc. All over the place. Does not help for TTC!
I only difference I've noticed since having a baby is that before baby I would know the day before my AF arrived. I would get a headache and horrible moods. Now they just kinda sneak up on me!

I've had one af since Lily was born and it lasted 2 weeks, was never heavy or light, medium the whole way through but rather crampy the whole time. Was there on minute and gone the next.
It came a week after getting the depo, haven't had it since then, but I am now on the mini pill not depo and bfing so not sure if I'll see it again for a while, but dr told me I may get it on the mini pill.
ETA: Had period since 13 too, always, ALWAYS been a 28 day cycle that was very predictable, and had cramping first 1-2 days when it was heaviest then nothing but always came on Thursday at bout 5pm (cramping from 9pm onwards until sat morning usually, and would finish up over night weds/thurs then nothing for 3 weeks)
ETA #2: I wouldn't be worried about the clumpy clotty bits as they're small, I often had them the first 1-2 days when bleeding was at its heaviest. If you are worried you could talk to PN/Dr, but it might be just your body settling back into a routine or whatever!
