I think you can ring IRd and apply over the phone. They will be able to tell you if you are eligible over the phone by asking a few stupid questions then you should be able to apply

Also on another note, you will most likely know about this & so will others but i just found out lol. DP took a lower payed job this week & we now get $120 from accommodation supplement a week. I had no idea. We would have been eligible with his current job getting $20 a week. Better than nothing though, i wish i had of known sooner

i think as long as you werent eligible for maternity leave you are able to get the $1200. It also depends on how much you earn of cource

For the tax credit we had to get a birth certificate and then an IRD number and THEN we could apply for the tax credit. I rang up and they sent us the forms.

But yip, as long as one of you works then you'll be eligible for the tax credit.

I was told to phone when I had a baby , the forms would be sent out and then we had so many weeks to produce birth cert - thats the same as my first and we were paid well before they had proof - and our child was 1 when we got it- we only got it for 2 months

So you get the parental tax credit if you're not working and therefore not eligible for paid parental leave ....is that right? DF earns a modest salary and so we get accom supplement etc but I"m at home looking after baby with another on the way so we couldn't figure out from the website if DF would be eligible for any paid leave once bubs is born? I said I didn't think so but they we might get the parental tax credit.....?

dads dont get paid paternal leave unless its written into their individual contracts.

If your not getting a benefit, and your not working (therefore not taking PPL) then PTC is the way to go. I was already registered for WFF (wasnt recieving at the time though) so I just rang up after she'd arrived and they started weekly payments the following week, giving me 8 weeks to get her IRD number sorted... which can also be done at any NZPost shop too. You'll need both yours and bubs birth certs, proof of IRD number for you, and photo ID for you. Cant think if there was anything else I had to take in. I got a letter within a week with her own IRD number, which I then rang and told IRD and they added her to my files. Easy.

The only way dads get paid leave is if you are working and transfer your PPL to him, as In you wouldnt be home for the full 14 weeks - so you end up sharing it - or thats what it was when we had our first

If you are just claiming the parental tax credit like we are this time, he gets jack - unless as babykatnz says - its in his contract - but not by law - and you have to earn under the threshold to be entitlted but its much higher than WFF limits - thank god!!

DH just took anual leave when we had both kids.

I saw the IRD ppl at the P&C show about applying and they said that because i had filled in the online forms for WFF they automatically sort my PTC and they'll let me know what else i need to do ie. IRD # for the kids.

Emme - id assume you can get something from WFF. we make too much to get accom supplement but still qualify so you must be on less than us or have different circumstances at least. Fill this out and you'll know how much you get :) when you apply you'll find out about PTC too
