Topic: Getting AF back Posted: 18 April 2010 at 11:42am |
Once you stop breastfeeding does AF usually come back pretty quickly or might it still stay away for ages? I'm all for it to stay away for a good few more months yet, but interested if it's likely.

Oh yeah, and is the first one normal or is it likely to be a killer?

There is no rhyme or reason as to exactly when it will come back. I have a friend who got it back 4 weeks after giving birth with both kids even tho they were fully bf. Mine came back after 7 months- Isla had been on solids since 4 months, I was still bf but her feeds had reduced.
Dont forget that u ovulate before your first period so its possible to get preg before u get that first period. Yes its often very heavy too.

I had my first one a couple of weeks ago (Tys fully BF) and it was light and painless just like usual. Jake was weaned round 6 weeks but didn't get AF back for a year even though I was ovulating.

Oh that was a light painless one too so yeah guess it depends on the individual and things like hormones

I'm still BFing, and AF first returned nearly 10 months after DS was born. Since then, its been fairly light and painless, up until it arrived today (after a much longer than normal cycle) with the typical ouchies back pain I got pre-baby.

I got mine back once Ty's feeds from me dropped down ,and he was on solids, and it was light, then the NEXT one I thought Af had turned up with a bunch of her friends to have a party in my body

Am still waiting here, Tess is 10 months and still bf but only usually about 3 feeds in 24 hours, with Lachie it was down to one feed at 13 months and still no sign so I stopped completely and got it back the next month and got preg straight away with Tessa. If I have not got it by 12 months I will stop BF as we would like to be trying for another one.
After I had my twins at 20 weeks I had almost constant bleeding for 5 months, was still all over the place when I got preg with Lachie. My specialist said everyone is really different and we all have really different levels of hormones so it is very hard to predict what you body will do!

I got mine back at 7 weeks with Sam and it was horrendous. He was bottle fed from 3 weeks onwards.
I got it back 14 weeks after Jamie and he is fully breastfeed around the clock, just about bloody 2-3 hourly nonstop so I felt really ripped off that I got it. Once again, the most horrendous bleeding again. Not much fun at all.

Sounds like it could be whenever then. How did you know you were ovulating Babe? Were you using OPKs?

I can't remember when exactly I got mine back chelle but I have a feeling Clodagh was around 4/5 months, and once she started solids and dropped the number of feeds. Having said THAT, I'm also sure I only had about 3/4 AF's then got pg lol, all of my AF's since birth bar one have been pretty normal.
